On Sunday, Nov. 9 at 3 p.m. at the Edgecomb Town Hall, speaker Kevin Johnson, photo archivist, will highlight historical views of Edgecomb, Maine and the surrounding area through postcards photographed during the early 1900s. The fascinating series of photo postcards was created by the Eastern Illustrating and Publishing Company to promote tourism.

The Boothbay Region High School Class of 2026 will be holding a two-day event to raise funds for their Project Graduation trip after graduation in June.

Join the BRHS Class of 2026 on a Spooky Halloween Wilderness Walk and Family Movie on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 25 and 26, 5-8 p.m., at the BRHS tennis courts. The movie will be "Casper, the Friendly Ghost." $5 admission. Snacks and treats available. Fun for all ages!

The annual Railway SPOOKtacular is set for this Saturday, Oct. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Boothbay Railway Village Museum, 586 Wiscasset Road/Route 27, Boothbay. The event will feature trick or treat stations hosted by community businesses and nonprofit organizations, carnival games, arts and crafts, a scavenger hunt, face painting, train rides and other spooky festivities. 

The towns of Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor are seeking input from residents, workers, business owners, students, and visitors to help shape a forward-looking economic development strategy.

In collaboration with RCAP Solutions, a nonprofit specializing in rural community and economic development, the towns have launched a community-wide survey to gather insights and ideas directly from those who live, work, and spend time in the region. The goal is to ensure future economic development efforts align with community values and priorities.

A nature journaling workshop is being offered at the Edgecomb Community Church on Sunday, Nov. 2, from 1 to 3 p.m. Kids ages 10 and older are encouraged to join with a parent or caring adult for this two-hour outdoor adventure. During this workshop you will explore nature and your power of observation, while exploring your senses, practicing awareness and understanding about how to take that information and put it into a nature journal using words and sketches.

On Saturday, Oct. 25, poetry readings will be heard from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Waldoboro Public Library, 958 Main Street. In addition to featured poets Paul McFarland and Eileen Hugo, there will be readings by poets included in the "Midcoast Poetry Journal Vol. 2" and an Open Mic. This is a free event.

"The Lost Boys" released in 1987, is the second full-length selection by The Cinema Clubhouse, being shown at the Harbor Theater at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19. Runtime: (1 hour and 37 minutes). Free!

Movie goers receive a score / ratings card. There will be a post-open mic discussion.

Surrounded by the sun and old friends, the Boothbay Region High School Class of 2026 started off their senior celebrations! Early on Friday, Oct. 3, seniors gathered at the Southport Town Landing to watch the sunrise. With a hearty breakfast of fresh-baked goods generously donated by the Southport General Store, they huddled together in the cold and enjoyed the morning light. 

The Waldo Theatre in Waldoboro has announced the cast of its upcoming community theatre production of Murdering the Mob, a seriously silly, laugh-out-loud, whodunit comedy where the audience helps to solve the crime!

The cast of mobsters, molls, barmaids and cops, all Midcoast residents, includes Christine Andersen, George Bates, Eve Jamieson, Valkyrie Koll, Susan LaVerdiere, Beverly Mackie, Laura Morris, Gordon Page, Rashi Verma, Rachael Schuster, Ell Stanton, Shari Wills, and Meg Wilson.

Saturday, Oct. 18 marks the last day of a vibrant season for the Maine Art Gallery (MAG). The non-profit association of artists located in Wiscasset recorded double the revenue from the prior year’s sales and about twice the number of visitors, too. By utilizing both floors of the gallery for concurrent shows MAG was able to offer more opportunities for members to exhibit while extending the length of a major retrospective of the works of a single artist.

The Miles Memorial Hospital League Art Committee is seeking area artists to submit work for a chance for their works to be featured in the Hall Gallery at MaineHealth Lincoln Hospital, in 2026.

Brave and curious lovers of local history are invited by Lincoln County Historical Association to experience a new event, "Shades of the Past," at the 1761 Pownalborough Court House in Dresden. Special evening tours, offered on the hour, beginning at 4 p.m. on the evenings on Oct. 24 and 25 only, will highlight some of the spookier aspects of the building’s rich history.

Lincoln Academy will soon present the popular musical "Into the Woods," by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, in collaboration with Heartwood Theater, who is sharing resources and managing publicity and ticketing. Performances are scheduled for Oct 24 – Nov 1, in the Poe Theater at Lincoln Academy.

The 57th Fall Foliage Festival is set for this Saturday, Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Boothbay Railway Village Museum.

The two-day event will feature 80+ talented artisans and makers, Maine musicians, delicious local foods, drinks, and sweet treats.  Admission also includes 35 acres of hands-on discovery with 28 museum exhibits, a model railroad and one of Maine’s most impressive antique auto collections.

I walked into Boothbay Region Art Foundation (BRAF) last Saturday night for its annual ARTinME opening reception and awards. And, wow. Just wow. I’ll say it now (and probably later as well): This is one of those shows in which each work is an example of each artist’s creative magic.
