Interactive theater program explores community ties to the Damariscotta River
On Saturday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m., community members are invited to participate in an interactive performance focused on the Damariscotta River. This event is for anyone with a connection to the river or with an interest in art-science-community connections.
During the two-hour program, entitled Connecting with the River, participants will experience a unique style of performing arts called applied theater. Created by the University of New Hampshire’s PowerPLAY, a professional applied theatre company, this event will enable participants to actively work with a group of community members and their varied connections to the Damariscotta River from the safety of their seats.
“We all have different connections with the river. This event will provide an opportunity to explore those connections and how they shape our interactions with one another and the ecosystem we are part of,” explained event organizer Heather Leslie, who is a professor at the University of Maine Darling Marine Center and a Newcastle resident.
The event is free and open to the public. Co-sponsored by Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust and the University of Maine Darling Marine Center, it will be held at Coastal Rivers’ Denny Conservation and Education Center, located at 12 Round Top Lane in Damariscotta.
The program is designed for adults. Children aged 14+ are welcome, provided they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. As space is limited, registration is required online at coastalrivers.org/events.
