Beth A. Barter
Beth Ann York Barter, Boothbay, passed away Sept. 27, 2026 at the age of 57.
Beth was born on Sept. 24, 1969. She grew up in Bristol, Maine, and graduated from Lincoln Academy. In 1995, Beth began her nursing career, starting a lifelong journey dedicated to caring for others.
Beth was a wholehearted, compassionate, and generous woman who gave love freely to everyone around her. She had a natural desire to help others and a kindness that reached far beyond her own family. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to taking care of those in need, working in Home Health care and spending many years serving her community as an EMT in Boothbay, Maine. Beth loved her work, but more importantly, she loved the people she cared for. Helping others was more than a job to her; it was a reflection of who she was. She touched many lives through her compassion, generosity, and willingness to be there for anyone who needed her.
Above all, Beth cherished her family. She loved spending time with those closest to her. Throughout Brogan and Madison’s childhood, Beth traveled to countless sports games and practices, cherishing every moment she shared with them and supporting them in all they did. These memories, along with the time she shared with her family, were among the many things that brought her joy. Beth most especially enjoyed watching women’s basketball with her daughter, Madison; and always cooking enough dinner for an army. She was an amazing cook. Beth’s love extended to her friends and her community, where she was loved by many and will be remembered for her big heart, caring nature, and the difference she made in the lives of others.
Beth is survived by her husband, Samuel Barter; her daughter, Madison Barter; her son, Brogan Barter; her aunt Joan Smyrski; and her mother, Colleen Leonard. She also leaves behind many beloved family members and friends whose lives were made better by knowing her.
She was predeceased by her father, Clifton York; her brother, Shawn York; her grandmother, Elaine Trask; and her aunt, Janet Grondin.
Beth’s life was one of love, kindness, and selflessness toward others. She had a heart that always made room for one more person, a willingness to help without hesitation, and a gift for making others feel cared for. Though she will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and community, the love she gave and the lives she touched will remain a lasting part of her legacy.
