Jennie Plummer, the pub’s owner, wanted to create a place where everyone had a year-round hangout.
Her husband, Todd Plummer, loves to play pool and sometimes has a cranky side to him, hence the name.
The new bar’s concept was inspired by a past Boothbay Harbor neighborhood bar, Everybody’s, which ended almost two decades ago. “Everybody’s was a place where people gathered to enjoy each other’s company, eat some great food, shoot some darts, or play some pool. Todd’s Tee’d Off will be the same idea, providing a fun place for people to go and enjoy all sorts of activities.”
In describing her new pub, she said it is more of an entertainment venue than a sports bar. Already in the works for December are mixed tape music nights, trivia nights, cornhole, the Boothbay Region Dart League, and line dance lessons.
“The BRDL has been playing at Brady’s for the last six years and has kind of outgrown the space. Having them move up to Todd’s will give them a chance to grow and possibly bring back the Lobster Shoot which brought people from all over New England and Canada, and was a huge boost to the winter economy," she said.
The new place will also have a unique feature. The pub will have a 75-foot penny-top bar. The pub started collecting pennies and Jay Quinn along with Renee Beck began individually gluing them to the bar. Once that process was done, Skip Orne, accompanied by his minions, poured over 20 gallons of epoxy over them. “It may not be the first penny-top bar, but it’s going to be the longest. We’ve been researching it and have even contacted the Guinness Book of World Records,” she said. “If people go to the Midwest to see the largest ball of twine, then why not come to Boothbay Harbor to see the longest penny bar.”
Plummer said community members and people from away donated pennies as part of the project. “So now, people can say they put their two cents in,” she said. The bar also features logos of Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and the Boothbay Seahawks.
Food and drink will be a major pub attraction. Brady’s Executive Chef and General Manager Stan Hornsby will expand his role in both positions at Todd’s. The pub’s menu will feature build-your-own sandwiches, Po’ Boys, salads, Cubans, various appetizers, and nachos. “The menu will feature famous sandwiches from other parts of the country,” Hornsby said. “There’s a muffuletta from New Orleans, an ‘old-school Po’Boy, a Pit sandwich from Maryland along with other authentic sandwiches you can’t get in New England.”
The menu will also feature a twist as Hornsby will include a brief history of each sandwich.
The pub’s location is in the former location of St Andrews Auxiliary Thrift at the Meadow Mall. The pub will be open seven days a week with hours to be determined. Plummer and the crew began working on converting the space five months ago and expect to open in mid-November.
