Boothbay has plans for a dog park
There may be a new dog park coming to a location near you. On Oct. 14, Boothbay Town Manager Dan Bryer announced negotiations with Boothbay Region Land Trust had begun for a dog park. The proposed location is at Cross River Preserve. "It came together pretty quickly and we are really excited about this," Bryer said during the selectboard meeting.
The proposed location would be penned in and not require any tree removal, said Bryer. The proximity of seasonal water was also a factor in selecting the location.
Bryer reported there are no confirmed details about the project such as when it would open and how large it would be. "Those are all part of the negotiations. Legal liability is being worked out. What happens if it doesn't work out? Is this a lease or would the town own the land? These are the questions being discussed," Bryer said.
In other action, selectmen renewed a self-sponsored events liquor license for Boothbay Playhouse Events, LLC. Selectmen also adopted the new Maine Municipal Association general assistance ordinance and appendices for Oct. 1, 2026 to Sept. 30, 2027.
In his report, Bryer told selectmen that absentee voting was happening at a high rate. "Ballots are flying right out of here," he said. Bryer added, early voting was so prevalent that "lines may not be that long on Election Day."
Selectmen tabled a proposed Interlocal Agreement with Boothbay Region Ambulance Service.
Selectmen meet next at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28 in the conference room.
