Among my modest collection of Wiscasset literature is a slim book compiled years ago by a man named Allton Dunsford.  It’s titled fittingly enough, “Wiscasset, Maine” and although it’s just a little over 50 pages, it serves as an enjoyable introduction to “Maine’s Prettiest Village." When the U.S. and Israeli air strikes triggered a new war in the Middle East, I worried that it might be another case of the tail wagging Trump’s dog: patriotic fervor distracting us from his incompetence, corruption, and association with Epstein — along with Bibi’s dog of an impending corruption trial and war-crimes indictments.

I can’t walk past a piece of trash, a can, a bottle, whatever, without picking it up. That habit comes with the territory of having been a school administrator for more than 20 years. When you spend decades telling students that good citizenship means putting litter where it belongs, in a trash can, you start practicing what you preach whether anyone’s watching or not.
