Abusers often seek to control the health choices of their partners, even when they are pregnant. Reproductive coercion, when an abuser tries to control reproductive health choices, is particularly important to understand in the context of pregnancy. Abusers may restrict victim-survivors' access to birth control or they may tamper with their partners' birth control. Reproductive coercion also includes the limitation of choice around pregnancy by either forcing someone to continue an unwanted pregnancy or forcing them to terminate a pregnancy against their wishes, according to Muñoz et al
A few weeks ago we wrote about the bomb cyclone that tore through the northeast in late February and how it might impact seabirds that winter on the open ocean. We had pondered whether dovekies, those smallest of the alcids (the family of birds that includes puffins and guillemots), might be found along the Maine shores in higher numbers after the storm.
The survival of these seabirds on the winter seas brought to mind a story we’d heard ages ago about a legendary cod fisherman. His name was Howard Blackburn. While fishing from a dory during a storm on the Grand Banks in January of 1883
Dear Editor:
As the 2026 tax season approaches, I’m reminded of Ben Franklin’s words, “...in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes…” (Edgecomb taxpayers will note the uncanny juxtaposition of Edgecomb’s town hall and the North Edgecomb Cemetery.)
We all calculate our income and dutifully pay our taxes each year, as required by law: national, state and town taxes. We make budgets and we stick to them. But not in Edgecomb.
After the town raised taxes 32% in 2024, a group of concerned residents (and seasonal taxpayers) formed the Edgecomb Community Tax Group (ECTG)
Dear Editor:
As the world turns into the AI order, many jobs requiring a college education will no longer exist, including legal work, financial analysis, writing and content, software development, medical analysis, and customer service, as explained in recent viral articles such as Something Big Is Happening and The One Question NOBODY Is Asking About AI and Jobs.
Our peninsula is no exception to the disruption. Our endangered water supply makes the Peninsula unsuitable for corporate culture, which is being unconstitutionally enacted by state-wide municipal ordinances, such as HP 1489
Dear Editor:
If Trump was never elected Iran would be taking over the “western world” right now. They would have nuclear weapons. The open border policy under Biden would have been going on for over ten years, and as a result there would be millions of Iranian and Chinese soldiers embedded in the country. Our military which was already very depleted would be completely depleted. All our battle ready soldiers would have been purged (a process started during Covid).
I almost said Iran would be taking over the “world,” but their ally China would be helping. China is not stupid. China knows Iran
