News and notes from the Community Center
October has been a great month for informative speakers at the Center. If you weren't able to join us in person, our friends at Boothbay Region TV are working to make sure you will be able to access the information online. Thanks BRTV!
Speakers included Gwyn Perlmutter, the Medicare & Money Minders Program Coordinator with Spectrum Generations who came to the Center Oct. 7 to give us updates about Medicare.
And Wednesday, Oct. 21 Eric Giroux from the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Boston Office spoke about “Senior Investment Fraud: New Scams and How to Avoid Them.”
Our volunteer Pam Utley is looking forward to teaching Mah Jong. The class is limited to four students. So please, if you want to take lessons, just give us a call and when we have enough students, we’ll let her know. Lessons will be on Mondays between noon and 2 p.m.
A great suggestion from volunteer and bridge player Jean Larkin that we start including kitchen "hacks" in this column. We think it's a fun idea, so here goes:
Did you know you can freeze fresh lemons so you always have them around?Yep, it's true. You can freeze whole lemons after washing and drying them. Freeze them individually, then keep them in the freezer for up to three months in a freezer bag or other container.
Bakers! This is an early “heads up!" Our popular and delicious pie sale returns at the end of November. We appreciate your help every year to provide us with a great selection of pies in time for the holiday. Details to come.
As always, your Community Center has games, great conversation, coffee, tea, baked goods and a big welcome every weekday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
