Join Midcoast Humane's fundraising Sunset Cruise June 27

A fundraiser for Midcoast Humane – a sunset cruise provided by Balmy Days Cruises in Boothbay Harbor – will be held Friday, June 27 from 5 to 8:30 p.m.

Enjoy stunning views of the Windjammers, delectable fare from the East Boothbay General Store, a cash bar, and music from the David and Chris Gagne Music Duo as we cruise into the golden hour. Best of all, every ticket supports the care and shelter of homeless animals in our community.

Skidompha Book Shop extends hours

The Skidompha Secondhand Book Shop in downtown Damariscotta is open every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. now through Labor Day.

The shop is located on the river at 17 Backstreet Landing, behind Elm Street Plaza. It is normally open from 9 to 4.

It offers thousands of paperback and hardcover books in dozens of categories for adults and children, as well as music CDs and records, movie DVDs, audiobooks, games, and puzzles. All items are donated, all staff members are volunteers, and every purchase supports the programs and collections of Skidompha Public Library.

All Saints by-the-Sea Episcopal summer chapel is pleased to announce that our opening services, on Sunday, June 15, will be led by our Boothbay Harbor neighbor, the Rev. Suzanne F. Colburn. Please join us at 8 and 10 a.m. as we celebrate Holy Communion and rejoice in the beauty of the new season on Southport Island. Rev. Colburn will also lead a discussion of the week’s scriptures on the chapel porch on Tuesday, June 17 from 9 to 10 a.m. Organist Mr. Henry Lowe will enhance our worship with his tremendous musical talent at both Sunday services.

Good afternoon and welcome to the graduation ceremony for this year’s graduates of Boothbay Region High School. My name is Anna Gosselin and I am the salutatorian for the class of 2025. I just want to start by saying how proud I am of my class. It’s so amazing to see all the different directions we are headed, even though we were all brought up in the same school. I wish you all the best and I hope you are all blessed with success in whatever you choose to do.

Movie: 'How to Keep Your Brain Healthy' June 11

If you want to know how to avoid losing your marbles as you age, come join us for lots of information about maintaining a brain-healthy lifestyle. In honor of Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month, the Boothbay Region Health Center is hosting the movie "Memories for Life: Reversing Alzheimer’s" on Wednesday, June 11 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Harbor Theater, Boothbay Harbor.

There will be brain healthy food served before the movie starting at 5:30 p.m. courtesy of members of the Brain Health program. The movie itself will and run 6 - 7:35 p.m.

BRHS Grand March: 114 years of tradition

The 114-year tradition continued Thursday night, June 5 as Boothbay Region High School held its annual Grand March.

The BRHS Class of 2025, with the boys wearing tuxedos and girls adorned in white gowns, promenaded around Porter Memorial Gymnasium in the familiar pattern for about 20 minutes for the large crowd of appreciative onlookers, with music provided by the Boothbay Region Community Band.

Family, friends and community members gathered at Porter Memorial Gymnasium June 4 to celebrate the accomplishments of graduating students and outstanding underclassmen at the annual Boothbay Region High School awards night.  

Following the scholarship and awards presentations, the annual Junior College Book Awards were announced. In addition, over 29 local businesses, individuals and foundations sponsored this year’s Frances D. Aley Donor Book Awards. Almost 70 books were given to students, with a matching copy donated to the school library.

Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor residents have another opportunity for their voices to be heard at the polls regarding the school budget. The Community School District (CSD) Budget Validation Referendum will be held June 10. 

May 8, Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor voters approved the first of two public votes for the proposed $11.4 million CSD budget for the 2026 fiscal year, as reported in the Register.

Veggies to Table’s 3rd annual French Sweepstakes is now live and can enter up until Sunday, June 8. Winners will be announced on June 12. The grand prize is a week-long stay in a gorgeous Paris apartment. All donations will help ensure that no one in our community will go to bed or wake up hungry.

“Almost 50% of local children rely on school meals daily, and pantry numbers are rising,” said Erica Berman, Executive Director of Veggies to Table. “Our work feeding our community is vital and timely.”

Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club
Junior Program foundation scholarships

The Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club wants local families to know that there are still spaces open in its summer sailing and tennis programs, and that scholarships remain available for local families.

The weekly sessions begin Monday, June 23 and run through the week of Aug. 11 for kids ages 5 and up. Both sailing and tennis are available as morning only, afternoon only, or all day sessions, and both with an option for early drop off or late pickup, to accommodate working parents’ schedules.

East Boothbay church holds special 'day' for retiring organist
June

June 8 is June Campbell Rose Day at East Boothbay United Method Church. Rose is retiring as the church organist after over 42 years in the position. Chuch officials will present Rose with the title of "Organist Emeritas" during a tribute to her service.

Boothbay Region High School (BRHS) students past and present filled Kaler’s Restaurant June 1 to celebrate the Class of 2025 during the annual alumni lunch and fundraiser. Alumni from the Classes of 1963 to 2023 were there celebrating the seniors. 

Guests were treated to a fully stocked taco bar, plus regular food and drink service from Kaler’s. The venue also had a special connection to the graduating class as seniors Abigail Clark and Maddie Orchard are longtime employees. Alumni Association member Jen Orchard said the event raised about $500 for the association.

Willl Herman, of Woolwich, earned a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry on May 10 from Grove City College. Established in 1876, Grove City College (www.gcc.edu) is a highly ranked, national Christian liberal arts and sciences college. 

Local students on Thomas College honors list

Thomas College in Waterville, Maine announces undergraduate students named to the spring 2025 Honors List. Local students named to the list are Mara Gentry and Athanase Lawless, both of Boothbay Harbor.

The number of students named to Thomas College’s Spring 2025 Honors List was 382 students, representing 62 percent of the undergraduate student body.
