Drinkwater girls defeat Boothbay for Busline League title

The Drinkwater School in Northport took advantage of a tired and cold-shooting Boothbay Region Elementary School girls basketball team and went on to defeat the Wildcats, 42-27, to win the Busline League small school division championship at Searsport on Saturday, Feb. 7.

The previously undefeated Wildcats got into foul trouble early but held a 22-17 lead at the half. The Drinkwater team, the top team in the north division, took advantage in the second half, outscoring Boothbay 18-3 in the third quarter…

The Boothbay Region Elementary School Wildcats girls basketball team advanced to championship game of the Busline League’s small school division by winning the south division, 46-23 over Woolwich at home Friday, Feb. 6.

The championship game is scheduled for this morning, Saturday, Feb. 7, at 10:30 a.m. in Searsport. Boothbay will play the winner of the north division championship game between the Drinkwater School in Northport and Lincolnville.

Thirteen members of the Boothbay Region Elementary School cheerleading team, coached by Lisa Tilton, competed against five other Midcoast schools in the 2026 Busline League Cheering Competition on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at Oceanside High School in Rockland.

Each school performed two routines for the judges. Although BRES did not win a plaque, the routine was nearly faultless.

The Boothbay Region Elementary School girls basketball Busline League small school southern division playoff game has been rescheduled for Friday, Feb. 6 at 5 p.m. at BRES, according to BRES Athletic Director Dennis Dacus. The game was orginally scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 5.

The Winthrop Ramblers improved to 9-8 on the season with a 54-20 win over the visiting Boothbay Region Seahawks on Tuesday, Feb. 3.

Leading scorers for Winthrop were Evelyn Mortimer with 17 points, followed by Kylee Mansir with 11.

Seahawks finish regular indoor track season

The Boothbay Region High School indoor track team finished its final regular-season meet Jan. 30 in Gorham with five podium placements. Now, coach Nick Scott said, is the time to prepare for championships.    

"All the hard work is behind us. And now, it's just the fine tuning,” he said. "The sheer quantity of either miles or whatever it is that you measure your quantity in, depending upon event type, will go down, and we'll focus more on quality.”

Sophomore point guard Peyton Barter fueled a Senior Night comeback through his scoring, defense and assists as the Seahawks went on to defeat the visiting Winthrop Ramblers, 48-43, Monday, Feb. 2.

Tuesday's (2/3) girls varsity basketball game at Winthrop has been moved from 6:30 to 6 p.m., according to Allan Crocker, BRHS athletic director.

The Mt. Abram Roadrunners improved to 14-3 with a 77-28 home win on Friday, Jan. 30.

Boothbay is now 5-12 with the loss.

Cougars edge Seahawks 55-53
Basketball

The Dirigo Cougars overcame a six-point deficit going into the fourth quarter and edged the visiting Boothbay Region Seahawks, 55-53, in Dixfield Saturday, Jan. 31.

The Seahawks held leads of 14-6, 24-15 and 40-34 at the first three breaks, but Dirigo outscored Boothbay, 21-13, in the fourth quarter to improve to 9-7 on the season. With the loss, Boothbay fell to 4-13.

Senior Simeon Bates led Boothbay with 25 points, with 10 of those coming in the first quarter. Chase Licursi added 12 points to the Seahawks' effort.

Girls game rescheduled

Boothbay Region High School Athletic Director Allan Crocker has announced that due to transportation issues, the girls basketball game at Mt. Abram, scheduled for today (Jan. 29) has been postponed to tomorrow, Jan 30. The new game time is 5 p.m.

The senior athletes on the Boothbay Region High School indoor track and girls varsity basketball teams were honored in the school’s Senior Night ceremony prior to the girls basketball game against Dirigo High School Tuesday, Jan. 27.

The Boothbay Region Seahawks battled the top-seeded Mt. Abram Roadrunners (now 13-3) through the fourth quarter Wednesday night, Jan. 28 at home, taking the lead early, but a scoring drought gave the visitors the opportunity to seal the victory, as the Roadrunners won, 64-54.

The Seahawks made a much better showing against Mt. Abram then they did the first time they met Jan. 9, as the Roadrunners won at home, 87-52.

BRHS cheerleaders to compete Jan. 31

The Boothbay Region High School cheerleading team will compete in the Class C North-South Regional Championship at Sanford High School on Saturday, Jan. 31.

Twenty-six Class C teams will be competing. Boothbay is scheduled to perform its routine at 2:12 p.m. Coach Michele Ripley said the team will perform its Regional routine during halftime of the boys basketball game on Monday, Feb. 2, which is also Senior Night for boys basketball, cheerleading and pep band.

The undefeated Boothbay Region Elementary School girls basketball team will begin their playoff schedule on Monday, Feb. 2 at home beginning at 3:45 p.m., according to BRES Athletic Director Dennis Dacus.

The top-seeded Wildcats will play the winner of the game between the fourth and fifth seeds. Should they win the opening game, they will host the next game, the South Regional final, on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 3:45 p.m.
