Markowitz homer powers 36ers past Gray Legion

A Sam Markowitz two-run home run in the third inning was the key blast June 26 in the Boothbay Region 36ers' 4-2 victory over the Gray Post 86 Warriors at Sherman Field. The Markowitz homer was part of a three-run third inning which propelled the 36ers to their second victory of the season.
Boothbay scored four runs on nine hits, and left seven men on base. Maddox Cusumano doubled and singled. Other 36ers with singles were Collin Verrill, Devin Bendix, Blake Grady, Dom Frisone, Felix Clines (one RBI) and Liam Jacobs. Boothbay batters walked twice and struck out 11 times.
Grady pitched four-hitless innings, allowed one unearned run, walked four and struck out eight. Kaleb Hussey pitched two innings, allowed three hits and no runs. Sam Wissman pitched one inning, allowed one unearned run, walked one and struck out two. Boothbay committed one error. Gray committed three.
On June 27, the 36ers lost, 7-4, versus Oxford Hills in Oxford. Boothbay had eight hits, drew eight walks and struck out six times. Oscar Gallant doubled. Frisone had two singles. Other 36ers who singled were Dylan Chiaramonte (one run batted in), Gallant, Grady (one RBI), Antreas Eraklis (2 RBI), and Casey Phelps (1 RBI). Boothbay left 13 men on base.
Hussey pitched 4.1 innings, allowed four hits, two earned runs, walked one and struck out five. Jacobs pitched 1.2 innings, allowed two hits, two earned runs, walked three and struck out three. Oxford Hills left eight men on base. Boothbay committed four errors.
Boothbay is now 2-4 in American Legion play.
The 36ers travel to Augusta June 29 to play Capital Area Senior Legion.
