Brody Campbell meets town manager
A 10-year-old has Boothbay Town Manager Dan Bryer's attention on an important municipal project. Brody Campbell just completed fourth grade and is a dedicated hoopster.
One day, he was leaving Clifford Park and noticed the playground, Little League baseball field, and two large fields for either soccer or another athletic endeavor.
So, he asked his father, Ron Campbell, "Why isn't there a basketball hoop here?"
The older Campbell didn't have an answer, but knew someone who would. The Campbells paid a visit to Bryer at the municipal office. Brody Campbell explained he was part of a young group of basketball players who would love to play at Clifford Park. "We've got a good group of us, and we think a hoop at the park would be a good thing," he told Bryer.
Bryer listened to the proposal, and decided it was something the town could pursue. Bryer told the Campbells a second meeting was needed to find a suitable location for a hoop, foul lane and 3-point stripe. "I discussed the project with the selectmen and they had no problem with the project," Bryer said.
Once a spot is found, the next step is financing. Brody Campbell proposed hosting a fundraiser at the park's pavilion selling hamburgers, hot dogs, etc. Bryer also had fundraising ideas. "We can check into possible donations from local businesses," Bryer said. "We will get this done. I'm not worried about that."
