Meredith P. Mitchell
Meredith Pierce Mitchell, 84, passed away on June 12, 2026.
Born on Sept. 26, 1941, Meredith was raised in Bath, Maine, where she attended Morse High School, graduating with the Class of 1959. There she formed friendships that would remain important throughout her entire life. While her Maine roots ran deep, she also spent many years in Oklahoma, where she formed lifelong friendships and pursued a career in law enforcement.
Southport Island and the people there remained close to Meredith’s heart. She treasured those friendships and always looked forward to returning to spend time with family and friends.
Popham Beach also held a special place in Meredith’s heart. Having grown up in Bath, she spent many memorable days there throughout her life. Meredith simply loved being near the ocean and was happiest with her toes in the sand.
Meredith was a woman of strength, independence, and determination. During her lifetime, she served as a patrol officer with Sequoyah County law enforcement in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, a role that reflected her courage and commitment to serving others. Throughout her life, she volunteered for numerous organizations throughout the Boothbay Harbor region. Among her favorites was the Southport Memorial Library, where she shared her passion for reading, her dedication to history, and her commitment to community service.
Among Meredith’s greatest pleasures was spending time with friends. She especially looked forward to Girls’ Game Night with her dear friends Mary, Carole, Martha, Harriet, Peggy, Jean, and Amy. The women gathered regularly to share dinner, play one another’s favorite games, and enjoy an evening of laughter and companionship. These evenings became a great source of happiness for Meredith throughout the years.
On Feb. 14, 2016, she married Captain Robert H. Conn, United States Navy (Retired). Their marriage brought companionship, laughter, and happiness to both of their lives. Together they became well-known around Boothbay Harbor, where they enjoyed spending time with friends and frequenting many local restaurants. Because neither Meredith nor Bob had much interest in cooking, they often dined out, and it wasn’t uncommon for restaurant staff to know exactly what food and favorite beverages to bring to their table. They cherished the friendships and community connections they built over the years. Captain Conn preceded Meredith in death.
Meredith had a gift for storytelling and a remarkable ability to make people laugh. She was stylish and elegant, yet fearless and adventurous. She combined grace and grit in a way that was uniquely her own. She delighted in simple pleasures, from adding to her beloved Beanie Baby collection to sharing time with family and friends. Whether she was sharing a memory, recounting an adventure, or simply enjoying an evening with friends, Meredith brought warmth, humor, and energy to every gathering. Her infectious spirit and adventurous nature brought joy wherever she went, and time spent with Meredith was rarely dull and never forgotten.
Above all, Meredith loved her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother whose children and grandchildren were the center of her world. She loved them fiercely and unconditionally, and nothing brought her greater joy than seeing them happy.
She is survived by her children, Michael, Jeremy, Jennifer, and Ronnie; her grandchildren; her stepdaughter, Patricia Royall; her good friend, Tim Hanley; and many extended family members and dear friends.
Though related by marriage, Meredith and Patricia Royall developed a close and lasting friendship that Patricia will always cherish.
One of Meredith’s favorite sentiments was that those we love never truly leave us, for they remain forever in our hearts. Her memory will live on in the stories, laughter, and love shared by all who knew her.
A celebration of Meredith’s life will be held at a future date, when family and friends can gather to share stories, laughter, and memories of a life well lived.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
