Boothbay athletes were led this season by Deshawn Averill who returned home with three gold medals and a 4th in his relay. Boothbay’s medal count was: one 8th place; three 6th places; four 5th places; 11 4th places; three bronze, nine silvers and four golds
The heat, about 92F on Friday, made the 400 meter runs and relays very hot and hard but Team 1 came through with a 4th in very tough competition, and Team 2 with a silver. Friday evening had Opening Ceremonies, and the celebration of all athletes going to the National Games in Minnesota including Grace Giles playing on Maine’s soccer team and Valerie Giles playing tennis singles. They have had National Games practice since last year.
Saturday Boothbay had lots of field events. It was good cool weather and no problems with these events. Saturday evening was the Victory Dance. It is fun to find their friends from other teams and to celebrate their victories.
Sunday the games finished with the walking events, mile run and Closing ceremonies.
Congratulations to Peter Brewster, Ronda LeConte, Donny Dunning, Joey Ranco, Danny Miller, Amber Hyson, Valerie Giles, Vincent Giles, John “Piper" Rankin, Grace Giles, and Deshawn Averill. Thanks to those who continue to support us and to Matthew Cusumano and Kaiden Cusamano who were the helpers this season.
