Boothbay 36ers earn first victory of American Legion baseball season
The Boothbay 36ers opened the 2026 American Legion season with a 1-3 record after doubleheaders with Roderick Crosby Post 28 (Farmington) and Capital Area Senior Legion (Augusta). Boothbay won its first game Monday, June 22 with a 7-5 victory over Capital Area in a five-inning contest.
Boothbay scored two runs in the fifth to break a 5-5 tie. Boothbay scored its runs on three hits and benefited from two Capital Area errors. Blake Grady, Maddox Cusumano and Devin Bendix each singled. Boothbay left five men on base.
Liam Jacobs pitched 2.1 innings, allowed three hits and four earned runs, walked five and struck out four. Benedix pitched 0.2 innings, allowed one hit, no runs and walked one. Kaleb Hussey pitched the final two innings. He allowed one hit, one earned run, walked one and struck out three.
In the first game, Capital Area held off a late Boothbay rally. Boothbay scored six times in the bottom of the seventh, but lost 12-9. Capital Area built a 10-3 lead after six innings. Capital Area scored two more in the seventh, building a 12-3 advantage before Boothbay rallied for six in its last at-bat.
Overall, Boothbay scored nine runs on seven hits. Capital Area committed five errors. Sam Markowitz doubled and singled. Bendix Chiaramonte, Oscar Gallant, Casey Phelps and Braedon Toothaker all singled. Boothbay batters struck out 11 and walked five times. Gallant pitched 3.1 innings, allowed six hits, one earned run, and struck out three. Hussey pitched 0.2 innings and allowed two earned runs on two hits and walked one. Blake Grady pitched two innings, allowed three hits, one earned run, walked two and struck out two. Toothaker pitched one inning, allowed one hit, two earned runs, walked two and struck out one. Capital Area left nine men on base. Boothbay committed seven errors.
June 17, Roderick-Crosby Post 28 swept a doubleheader versus Boothbay at Sherman Field. Roderick Crosby won 12-2 and 3-1. In the first game, Roderick Crosby stormed out to a 5-1 lead after the first inning. Boothbay scored two runs on five hits. Markowitz and Maddox Cusumano doubled. Markowitz led the team with two hits, the second being a single. Gallant and Jacobs also singled. Boothbay left five men on base.
Gallant pitched four innings, allowed five hits, five earned runs, walked four and struck out five. Hussey pitched one inning, allowed two hits, one earned run, walked two and struck out one. Andreas Eraklis pitched one inning, allowed one hit, no earned runs, and struck out three.
In the second game, Boothbay took a 1-0 lead in the fourth, but Roderick Crosby scored three times in the sixth. Boothbay had three hits. Sam Wissman doubled. Gallant and Felix Clines each singled. Boothbay left four men on base. Liam Jacobs pitched three scoreless innings. He allowed zero hits and struck out six. Hussey pitched three innings, allowed three hits, three earned runs, walked one and struck out five.
The 36ers travel to Gray on Friday, June 26 for a game versus Gray Post 86 Warriors.
