33rd annual Sheepscot River Race July 5
The 33rd annual Sheepscot River Race will be held Sunday, July 5 beginning at 4 p.m.
This is a 6-mile canoe and kayak race starting in Newcastle at the Route 1 Rest Area Bridge and finishing at the Wiscasset Waterfront in Wiscasset. It is one of the most scenic Maine Paddling Race Courses with four miles of moving water meandering through beautiful protected marshes and riverbanks.
This race is part of the Maine Canoe and Kayak Flat Water Racing Series. Awards and refreshments will follow the race at the Wiscasset Waterfront.
This race is organized and run by Seaspray Kayaking with prize donations by several local businesses. All pre-registered participants will receive a Sheepscot River Race T-shirt.
Rules: Mackro; Lifejackets must be worn.
Race classes: Racing/Recreational Canoeing: OC 1 Men and Women, OC 2 Men, Women and Mixed, Adult/Youth; War Canoes: 6 person and 10+ person; Kayaking: K-1 Men and Women, Youth Sea; Kayak: K-1 Men and Women, Youth K-2 Open; Paddleboards: Under 12’6 ” and 12’6′′+
A shuttle from the finish line will be available immediately following the awards ceremony.
Facilities: Restrooms, changing rooms and water at start and finish.
Awards: Top 3 in each class and many door prizes.
Sponsors: Seaspray Kayaking and local merchants.
Registration: $20/person. Only $5 for kids under age 17; Newcastle Rest Area registration begins at 2:30 p.m. race day.
