The morning of July 23, Sagadahoc County Communications Center received a 911 call from a Woolwich motorist reporting they had been assaulted during a road rage incident on Old Stage Road. The victim alleged that a vehicle started to tailgate before cutting him off and stopping in the roadway.

The suspect and victim both exited their vehicles and the victim attempted to take a photo of the suspect and offending vehicle. This is when the suspect allegedly drew a handgun and pointed it at the victim demanding he turn over his phone. The suspect allegedly started to chase the victim before striking him in the head with the handgun and firing a single round that did not hit the victim.

The suspect then fled the scene. While the victim escaped serious injury, he was shaken by the event. Sagadahoc County sheriff's deputies responded to the scene and met with the victim, who provided a detailed description of both the suspect and offending vehicle. Deputies also recovered a nylon handgun holster and spent 9mm shell casing from the scene. Numerous deputies and detectives immediately started working on the case by canvassing the area for witnesses and looking for any security camera footage of the suspect and vehicle.

Video footage was recovered that provided crucial images of the suspect and suspect’s vehicle. Sketch Artist/ Det. Sgt. Adam Temple met with the victim and completed a forensic sketch of the suspect. Collaboration with the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles and the National Insurance Crime Bureau led to a narrow list of possible suspect vehicles that could be compared to the recovered video footage. From this list, deputies were able to isolate a single vehicle and identify the suspect as Jamie Kramer, 67, of Dresden.

Kramer’s driver’s license photo was compared to the forensic sketch and recovered video. Based on the evidence, deputies and detectives from Sagadahoc and Lincoln County sheriffs’ offices executed a search warrant at Kramer’s residence in Dresden and seized evidence believed to be related to the alleged assault. Kramer was arrested and has been charged with Aggravated Assault, Class B and Criminal Threatening with Dangerous Weapon, Class C.

Kramer was cooperative during the arrest and was transported to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset. The investigation will continue and the case will be reviewed by the Sagadahoc County District Attorney’s Office.

The Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles, the National Insurance Crime Bureau, and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, in addition to the Sagadahoc County Communications Center, the Sagadahoc and Lincoln County District Attorneys’ offices, the Maine State Police Maine Information and Analysis Center, Waldoboro Police Department, and Knox County Sheriff’s offices.
