SPI event kicks off the 2026 Windjammer Days
The Maine Model Yacht Club and Spruce Point Inn hosted the third annual Spruce Point Inn Regatta on June 21 in Boothbay Harbor as part of Boothbay Harbor Windjammer Days.
The event attracted radio-controlled yacht skippers from across Maine and New England, including competitors from Plymouth, Massachusetts, and Mount Desert Island. Sailors competed in three races on a challenging course designed and managed by Race Director Peter Wilson of Camden, who adapted the racing throughout the day to changing conditions on the harbor.
Jeff Van Peski claimed first place overall, followed by Wiley Wakeman of Plymouth, Massachusetts, in second. John Coale of Cumberland Center finished third after a tiebreaker.
"It was fun because of the people who were there," said Van Peski. "We sailed with friends we don't often see and met new sailors, all in a beautiful setting. It felt like a real event, and everyone came with great spirits and a willingness to enjoy the day."
Hosted by Spruce Point Inn in partnership with the Maine Model Yacht Club, the regatta brought together sailors from throughout the region for a day of competition and camaraderie on the waters of Boothbay Harbor. Now in its third year, the event has become a recurring part of Spruce Point Inn's participation in Boothbay Harbor Windjammer Days and continues to attract competitors from across Maine and New England.
