The Boothbay 36ers' 5-12 record in American Legion action this summer didn't qualify them for a state tournament playoff spot, but the team qualified anyway. Capital Area of Augusta qualified for the tournament but dropped out prior to the tournament. 36ers assistant coach Adam Harkins explained the Augusta team decided to play in the regional Babe Ruth tournament.

"They had a lot of players on both their Babe Ruth and Legion teams. Their Babe Ruth team qualified for the regional tournament, but couldn't field a Legion team, so we were the next team up," he said.

The 36ers will travel to Colby College in Waterville Monday to play the Messalonskee team (8-10) in the state American Legion tournament play-in game. The winner plays No. 1 Hampden on July 21. The 36ers will likely start Liam Jacobs for tonight's game, according to Harkins.

On July 18, the 36ers concluded their regular season with a 12-3 loss to Sanford. Sanford scored 12 runs on 11 hits and was aided by eight Boothbay errors. Boothbay scored three runs on six hits and was aided by two Sanford errors.

Ben Lewis had the 36ers' only extra-base hit with a double. Baylee Jordan had two singles. Devin Bendix, Felix Clines and Oscar Gallant all had singles. 36er batters struck out six times.

On the mound, Blake Grady pitched 2.1 innings, allowed four runs on six hits, walked two and struck out six. Sam Wissman pitched 1.2 innings, allowed one hit, no runs, walked one and struck out four. Kaleb Hussey pitched two innings, allowed four hits, one earned run, walked one and struck out one.
