Washington Academy beats Boothbay in 8-man football

Washington Academy held off a furious Boothbay second-half rally Oct. 3 to claim a 26-18 Maine 8-man high school football victory at Sherman Field. Washington Academy plays in the state's Northern 8-man football conference and traveled down U.S. Route One South from East Machias to play this intra-conference contest.

Washington Academy used a power running game Friday to defeat Boothbay, 26-18, in 8-man Small Conference Football action. Boothbay scored first on a run by quarterback Shawn Gamage, who ran for two of Boothbay's touchdowns, but the Raiders scored the next 19 points.

Boothbay's two third quarter touchdowns closed the gap to 19-18, but a costly interception in the fourth quarter stopped a possible go-ahead touchdown. Boothbay drops to 1-4. Washington Academy improves to 2-2. Boothbay has a bye next week…

Boothbay gets big win over Spruce Mountain

The Boothbay Region Seahawks are on a roll and Friday’s Homecoming win over the visiting Spruce Mountain Phoenix might have been the team's biggest win of the season so far.

The Seahawks got two second half goals, an unassisted third quarter goal by Sophia Gatnar at 2:46, and a fourth quarter goal by Zuri Smith, off an assist from Olivia Hardwick, at 4:07, and went on to win 2-0.

On Thursday, Oct. 2, the Boothbay Region Middle School girls cross country team traveled to Great Salt Bay in Damariscotta. The course was a difficult 2.1 miles that included the infamous "Killer Hill."

Free basketball clinics for K-2

Boothbay Region High School coach Bruce Orne and Tanner Grover will be running a series of free basketball clinics for girls in grades K-2 this fall. Clinics will be held in the Boothbay Region Elementary School gym on Mondays from 4 to 5 p.m.

The Boothbay Region Seahawk field hockey team defeated the Winthrop/Maranacook Ramblers, 2-1, in Winthrop on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 1. According to newspaper records, it was the first win over Winthrop since 2017.

The Seahawks, in the midst of one of the best seasons of the 50-year-old program, improved to 8-1-1 with the victory. The Ramblers dropped to 5-4 with the loss.

Sunday, Sept. 28 was crazy on the deck at Brady’s as the Mini Seahawks thundered down the boardwalk in their uniforms with parents, family, and friends cheering them on. The Boothbay Region Seahawk field hockey team continues to show Class C opponents they are the real deal as they improved to 7-1-1 with a 2-1 win over the Oak Hill Raiders on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Wiscasset Speedway closed out their 2025 points season on Saturday by hosting their Group 2 season finale, which featured the Dale’s Cash Fuel Roadrunners, Wood Pellet Warehouse Late Models, the weekly T&L Automotive Modifieds, visiting New England Pro 4 Modifieds and the biggest Strictly Street race of the season: the 13th Annual Strictly Shootout, presented by Thayer’s Automotive.

AJ Crocker and Maddie Andreasen led the Boothbay Region High School cross country team with sixth-place finishes at their Sept. 26 meet at UMaine Augusta.  

Overall, the Seahawk girls team finished second with 54 points and a 28:13-minute average. Madison won with 50 points and a 27:11 average. The Boothbay boys team placed third with 65 points and a 20:40 average. Lisbon won with 39 points and a 19:49 average.

Seahawks down Falcons, now 6-1-1

For the second time this week, the Boothbay Region Seahawks defeated the Mountain Valley Falcons, this time at home, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 27.

The win improved the Seahawks’ record to 6-1-1 while Mountain Valley dropped to 2-6.

The game was evenly matched the first half but Boothbay took a 1-0 lead in the second quarter with a goal by Lilly Cowing at the 6:26 mark.

A 76-minute, double overtime battle on the field hockey pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 24 in Lisbon ended with a 0-0 tie between the Boothbay Region Seahawks and the Lisbon Greyhounds.

Boothbay, which entered the game at 5-1 and in fifth place in Class C South, were hoping to take down the top-ranked Greyhounds, who started the day at 4-1-1 with wins over Mountain Valley, Traip and Spruce Mountain. Boothbay’s only loss of the season was to third-ranked Hall-Dale/Monmouth while Lisbon lost Winthrop/Maranacook and tied Hall-…

 Unfortunately, summer has flown by in the blink of an eye and we are nearing the conclusion of the 2025 race season at Wiscasset Speedway.

The Boothbay Region High School cross country team put on a strong performance at their home meet Sept. 19. Maddie Andreasen won the girls race, and AJ Crocker led the Seahawks with a second-place finish in the boys event.  

The girls team finished first with 18 points and an average time of 3:49 minutes. Each girl also finished in the top ten. The boys team finished second with a three-minute average and 35 points. Lisbon won the boys event with a 2:21 average and 28 points.

The Boothbay Region High School field hockey team edged Mountain Valley, 1-0, on Monday, Sept. 22 to improve to 5-1 on the season.

A third period goal by sophomore Moriah Smith was the difference as the Seahawk defense held off the Falcons, now 2-4 in Class C North, and recorded their fourth shutout of the season.

As of Tuesday morning, the Seahawks were in fifth place in Class C South. Boothbay has a run at some of the top teams in the division over the next week.

Sacopee Valley stops Boothbay, 34-30, in 8-man football

Boothbay football fell short of the victory column Sept. 19 with a loss to Sacopee Valley, 34-30 in Hiram. Boothbay is now 0-3 in 8-man football action. Sacopee improves to 2-1. 

The Seahawks return home Sept. 26 to host Traip Academy (1-2). Traip's lone victory came against Mount View and their losses were to Bucksport and Sacopee Valley. 

Game time is 7 p.m. on Friday at Sherman Field.

On Sunday, Sept. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m., the 4th annual Mini Seahawks Pep rally will be held at Brady’s. Sponsored by Pier One Pizza, Pinkham’s Gourmet Market, Brady’s, and Darrel Gudroe, the rally will ignite the kids to finish their season strong! Pizza, chicken tenders, sports drinks, bottled water, and various desserts will be provided for the kids free of charge.
