Seahawk star Karen Higgins again made strides with a top 10 finish under 20 minutes. The performance helped the girls team take its best finish for the race in school history, according to coach Nick Scott. Boothbay beats Telstar, 52-16, in 8-man football After a devastating loss to Sacopee Valley Sept. 20, Boothbay football coach Ed Crocker had a revelation: "No more Mr. Nice Guy." Crocker decided football practices needed more activity, and he decided to push his squad through strenuous daily workouts with less emphasis on X's and O's. ‘In that moment’: Wiscasset’s Anna McDougal inducted into Maine Sports Hall of Fame Anna McDougal said being inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame last month was one of the best moments of her life.The Wiscasset woman said skiing in the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Austria was awesome, and a big deal, “but I think this was more of a big deal.”She loved the Hall’s induction ceremony, including the heavy trophy and the standing ovation she and the other inductees got, McDougal, 45, shared in a phone interview Monday. BRHS field hockey Dirigo shuts out Boothbay The Boothbay Region Seahawk field hockey team dropped to 2-5 on the season with a 6-0 loss to the Dirigo Cougars in Dixfield on Monday, Sept. 30.Scoring goals for Dirigo were Mackenzie Woods (2), Grace Averill, Emily Woods, Madisyn Bradeen and Zoey Bordeau.The Cougars improved to 5-2 with the win.At press time, Boothbay's Oct. 2 game at home vs. Lisbon, was reschedule for Saturday, Oct. 12 at noon. The Monday, Oct. 7 game at home vs. Oak Hill was rescheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 3:30 p.m. Special Olympians compete in soccer The Boothbay Region Special Olympic soccer team traveled to Waterville for the State Soccer Competition on Wed. Oct 2 . This soccer competition tests skills and team play. BRHS football schedule change The Boothbay Region High School football team's game at Washington Academy has been rescheduled from Friday, Oct. 25 to Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. at the East Machias school, according to BRHS Athletic Director, Allan Crocker. BRHS field hockey postponed Boothbay Region High School Athletic Director Allan Crocker has announced that the home field hockey game v. Lisbon tomorrow, Oct. 2 has been postponed due to Lisbon's bus driver shortage. A make-up date has not been established at this time. Boys five points short of win Seahawks girls dominate UMA cross-country meet Boothbay Region High School made a strong impression at UMaine Augusta during its mid-season cross country race Sept. 27. The girls won their team event by a wide margin, the boys team placed second barely behind the winners, and Karen Higgins again was the top female runner. Overall, around 80 boys and 50 girls from eight schools competed in the meet, representing the entire conference. Josh St. Clair wins 2nd consecutive Strictly Shootout at Wiscasset Speedway Wiscasset Speedway closed out their 2024 points season on Saturday and celebrated by hosting their biggest Strictly Street race of the year; the Strictly Shootout presented by Thayer’s Automotive. With a guaranteed $600 winner’s payout and thousands of dollars of contingency prizes on the line, 40 drivers showed up to shoot their shot at making it into the big dance. Seahawks overwhelm Mt. View in 8-man football The Mt. View Mustangs and Boothbay Seahawks entered week four of Maine's Small Conference 8-man football league both in search of their first victories. It didn't take long before Boothbay emerged from the winless ranks to grab a 70-0 victory at Sherman Field. Little Seahawks' pep rally at Brady's Sunday afternoon. Sept 29 greeted the Little Seahawks with a beautiful afternoon at Brady's as Pier One Pizza assisted in hosting the third annual pep rally for all the players. The kids enjoyed pizza, chicken tenders, hot dogs, and homemade cupcakes provided by both restaurants and local dessert cooks. BRHS 1958 football team to be inducted The Mid-Coast Hall of Fame is pleased to announce that the 1958 football team is being recognized as an outstanding team at the 2024 banquet on Oct. 19. The 1958 football team with the first state championship team in Boothbay Region High School’s history, going 8- 0 and outscoring their opponents by a margin of 294 to 6. In addition to being the Class D State Champions, they were also the Kennebec Valley Conference Champions and still hold the school record for fewest points allowed in a season. Special Olympics Equestrian Competition held On Sept. 28 at the Skowhegan Fair Grounds, the 27th annual Special Olympics Equestrian Competition took place.Ronda LeConte competed in Equestrian B1 as well as working trails. She won a third for her Equestrian Event and a second for her Working Trails. Ronda rode "Joy" with Maple Hill Farms in Auburn. She is a Boothbay athlete and has participated for many years in this event. BRHS field hockey Seahawks down Telstar, Mountain Valley, lose to Hall-Dale and Winthrop After losing their first four games, the Boothbay Region High School field hockey team won their next two to improve to 2-4 on the season.Izzy Andreason and senior tri-captain Magen Burge each scored two goals as the Seahawks improved to 2-4 on the season with a 4-0 win over the Telstar Rebels in Bethel Friday, Sept. 27.Boothbay dominated the game as Telstar didn’t get off a shot against the Seahawks’ defense.Andreason’s goals and one of Burge’s goals came in the first half as the Seahawks led at halftime, 3-0. Midcoast Conservancy’s Full Moon Hike season is coming As Midcoast Conservancy’s Full Moon Paddle series wraps up this month, the moonlit adventures shift to feet instead of canoes! Spend an evening hiking into Little Dyer Pond at Hidden Valley Nature Center in Jefferson in the glow of Mother Nature’s headlamp. Lighthouses, schooners, and cormorants About a week ago Boothbay Register's Steve Edwards was out on the water - and like all avid photographers, he had his camera with him. Here are some views from shore he captured. Wildcats place third at Camden XC meet The Boothbay Region Elementary School (BRES) middle school cross country teams went to Camden for their second meet of the season Sept. 19. Runners from Camden-Rockport, Oceanside, Lincolnville, Edna Drinkwater, Troy Howard and Searsport middle schools also competed. The Wildcat girls finished third overall and the boys finished sixth on the challenging 2.3-mile course. Seahawks shine at home meet In their first and only home meet of the season, the Seahawks cross-country team soared. AJ Crocker and Karen Higgins won the boys and girls events, and eight Boothbay Region High School athletes placed in the top five. The meet had around 40 total runners from Boothbay, Richmond, Hall-Dale and Spruce Mountain. Boothbay was the only team that placed in the boys event, earning 15 points with a 20:13-minute average. The girls team won against Richmond with 16 points and a 22:41-minute average. The String of Good Birding Luck Continues It’s hard to believe that we could have repeated our amazing Wharton Point good luck from last month but, somehow, we did. We ran a series of errands in and around Brunswick and, without consulting a tide chart, on a whim, we decided to stop off at Wharton Point on our way to our last errand.Like we did during our August visit, we arrived just as the tide had turned and was going out, revealing more and more of the extensive mudflats at the base of the parking area and shrub-covered hillside.
