Dear Editor:

Two recent decisions by the Boothbay Harbor Planning Board chairman seem ill advised and one illegal. As I wrote in a previous letter I was chairman of the Edgecomb Planning Board and now live in Boothbay Harbor.

#1: At the end of the last PB meeting, it was determined that there were too many items at the next PB meeting and an additional one would have to be scheduled. This was difficult for the abutters' lawyer to attend. After some discussion, the PB acting chairman made the decision that the lawyers should come up with the next meeting. This creates a chance for the abutters’ lawyer to delay as long as possible as that is their intent. This is like having the fox guard the chicken coop.

#2 This information is based on the article in the Boothbay Register. The holding up of the approval for the charging stations at the Meadow Mall. In checking the BH zoning map online, I could not find any wetland area in the mall area and in fact the northern end is the start of a protected area on the east side of Route 27. If in fact there is a wetland area at the corner of Routes 27 and 96, the whole parking lot is grandfathered as approved. Adding two charging stations is not increasing the area of the parking lot or its usage and if it were a parking structure it would be like adding two electrical outlets on an interior wall and would not change the size of the structure. I question the need for a site inspection. I agree with the Code Enforcement Officer's decision. In fact in the past there was an auto bank teller machine closer to the SW corner of the parking lot.
