Tuna are being caught and the first boat to land one in the fifth annual Boothbay Harbor Tuna Challenge at Carousel Marina has a big jump on the field of boats participating as far as the heaviest tuna category is concerned.

Rolling Stone, with captain Alan Dugas, out of Yarmouth, Maine landed a 914-pound tuna early Wednesday morning, the first day of the four-day tournament (Sept. 2, 3, 6 and 7).

Last year’s weight category winner, captain Nick Morley of Locked N' Loaded, brought in his first catch of the tournament with a 694-pound tuna. Morley and crew won the top prize in the 2025 tournament with an 832-pound tuna. Last year, 45 tuna with a combined weight of 25,058 pounds were entered in the tournament.

This year’s tournament is offering $126,000 in prize money. The top five heaviest bluefins will receive $55,000, $25,000, $15,000, $4,500 and $2,500 according to the tournament website. Overall combined weight top three prizes are: $30,000, $15,000 and $5,500.

Other early entries before noon on Wednesday included: Devocean, captain Rob Rutter, 594 pounds; Dark Horse, captain Matt Poole, 574 pounds; Allie Alayna, captain Jacob Knowles, 480 pounds; Erin & Sarah, captain Pete Speechess, 466 pounds; Orion & RJ, captain Chris Hutchinson, 408 pounds; Wilmar II, captain Tom Kelly, 345 pounds; Endorfin, captain Cameron Thorp, 314 pounds.
