We’ll kick things off with Windjammers for Wee Mateys on Tuesday, June 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. where kids can get temporary pirate tattoos, pick pirate names, and practice their pirate talk. Sign up for the Summer Reading Program to complete reading challenges to earn prizes and raffle tickets for a chance to win even bigger prizes!

Ahoy, Me Hearties! Join the Boothbay Harbor Treasure Hunt and ready yerselves to uncover secrets along its shores where mystery, merriment, and history await young and old buccaneers alike!   

The summer-long event is a sea-sprinkled quest for golden knowledge, experiences, and treasures galore. Kicking off Sunday, June 22nd and running through September 30th, this pirate themed hunt will be more than just fun and games - it supports a worthy cause right here at home.

University of Maine Cooperative Extension announces a virtual Equine Speaker Series for 2025. The theme of the summer webinar series is “From Foaling to Farewell: Essential Knowledge Covering the Equine Lifecycle” with presentations by topic experts from Maine and across the country. Searsmont, Maine resident, The Rev. Canon Victoria Sirota will be returning to lead worship at All Saints by-the-Sea chapel for her fourth summer this season. Rev. Sirota will celebrate the service of Holy Communion at 8 and 10 a.m. on both June 22 and June 29. Our organist, an accomplished church organist and world renown recitalist, Mr. Henry Lowe, will continue to provide music at all services.

Smiles, laughter and tears were all present June 12 as 37 eighth graders and their families said goodbye to Boothbay Region Elementary School (BRES) during a recognition ceremony.  

Several students received Harold Clifford awards for outstanding achievement, work ethic and academic excellence. Principal Shawna Kurr presented the 2025 Secretary of State award, in lieu of Rep. Holly Stover, who was unable to attend due to the active legislative session.

Mine Oyster won first place at Claw Down 2025 on June 12 amidst applause, shouting, whistles and hollers. The winning bite, De-Constructed Lobster Bake, was composed of a fried potato crisp, warm corn salsa, butter poached lobster meat, hollandaise sauce, crispy fried clam, seaweed salt, seaweed nest and blueberry coulis.

Comedian Paula Poundstone returns to The Strand

Tickets are on sale now for comedian Paula Poundstone, who will bring her distinctive brand of spontaneous observational comedy to the Strand Theatre on Friday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m.

 Poundstone regularly plays theaters across the country, hosts a weekly comedy podcast, “Nobody Listens to Paula Poundstone” and is a regular panelist on NPR’s “Wait, Wait… Don’t Tell Me.”  She also voiced the character “Forgetter Paula” in the feature films "Inside Out" and "Inside Out 2."

The Steep Canyon Rangers are excited to embark on their summer tour! They are head to many stops on this tour including New Hampshire, Maine, Pennsylvania, and several others. Steep Canyon Rangers are Asheville, North Carolina’s GRAMMY winners, perennial Billboard chart-toppers, and frequent collaborators of the renowned banjoist (and occasional comedian) Steve Martin.

'The Latest in Fishing Gear Innovation'

On Wednesday, June 25 from 6 to 7 p.m. the next Ocean on Tap event will be held at Footbridge Brewery, 25 Granary Way, Boothbay Harbor.

The Innovative Gear Library Team of Maine's Department of Marine Resources will be speaking about their collaborative project testing alternative fishing gear and providing real-world feedback. There's a slight overlap with the Windjammer Days Street Parade, but we hope you can join us after for this fascinating conversation!

Boothbay Region Adult and Community Education (BRACE) graduated nine students June 10 in the Boothbay Region High School library. Commencement was moved from Barrett’s Park due to rain. Over 50 friends, family members and administrators gathered in honor of the students' achievement of their high school equivalency.

School budget passes with split vote

Community School District voters passed the $11.4 million CSD budget for the 2026 fiscal year June 10. Overall, voters approved the Budget Validation Referendum 310-273. 

Residents voted on a single question: “Do you favor approving the Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor Community School District budget for the upcoming school year that was adopted at the latest District budget meeting?”

Diplomas were handed out to the 39 members of the Boothbay Region High School Class of 2025 during Graduation Exercises in a humidity-filled Porter Memorial Gymnasium on Friday afternoon, June 6.

While the event programs made for makeshift fans, the hundreds of family members and friends watched, listened and cheered during the ceremony.

BRHS Principal Dr. Tricia Campbell provided a brief welcoming address, praising parents, the community, the graduates and faculty for helping to get the graduates where they are today.

A fundraiser for Midcoast Humane – a sunset cruise provided by Balmy Days Cruises in Boothbay Harbor – will be held Friday, June 27 from 5 to 8:30 p.m.

Enjoy stunning views of the Windjammers, delectable fare from the East Boothbay General Store, a cash bar, and music from the David and Chris Gagne Music Duo as we cruise into the golden hour. Best of all, every ticket supports the care and shelter of homeless animals in our community.

Skidompha Book Shop extends hours

The Skidompha Secondhand Book Shop in downtown Damariscotta is open every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. now through Labor Day.

The shop is located on the river at 17 Backstreet Landing, behind Elm Street Plaza. It is normally open from 9 to 4.

It offers thousands of paperback and hardcover books in dozens of categories for adults and children, as well as music CDs and records, movie DVDs, audiobooks, games, and puzzles. All items are donated, all staff members are volunteers, and every purchase supports the programs and collections of Skidompha Public Library.
