Registration open for Hearty Roots Coastal Expeditions
Summer in Maine has so much to offer, especially as a camper on one of Hearty Roots’ Coastal Expeditions. These five-day island-based trips invite teens to chill, explore, and connect in a Muscongus Bay adventure off the mainland. The low-key and comfortable space for teens makes it easy for them to show up just as they are, and feel welcome and supported in a small group setting.
Using sea kayaks, each group of eight teens heads off to island hop around the bay, camping on different islands throughout the week. Daytime activities include carving, campfire cooking, hammocking, hiking, plus suggestions from participants about what they want to include in their trip.
Three trips still have spots available for this summer: from July 7-12, female-identifying kids ages 12-14; July 29-Aug. 3 for male-identifying kids ages 12-14; and Aug. 11-13, all genders, ages 14-18. Two experienced wilderness counselors lead each trip. Thanks to the generosity of the folks at Kieve Wavus Education, trips will launch from the Kieve landing in Bremen for easy access to the bay. The dock, fire pits and tent platforms there offer a perfect spot for program support.
