After its winter break, the BICA Hall (24 West Side Road) is ready to welcome the community back. The first potluck of the season will be held on April 15 at 5:30 p.m. In celebration of tax day, BICA will provide a soup supper with several soup options and bread. Attendees are invited to bring a salad, side dish, or dessert to share. Coffee and water will be available; guests are welcome to bring their preferred beverages. All are welcome.
If you have an Easter hat, bonnet, or other festive or not so festive head wear, please wear it to the potluck. Prizes will be awarded, and participation is welcomed and encouraged for everyone, including the men.
BICA extends sincere thanks to Sally and the Ashworth Family for hosting the January and February gatherings, respectively. And special thanks to Les, Suzanne, Ann and Frosty for bringing the Food Pantry to the hall on Friday afternoons this winter. There is a lot of lugging involved. The Friday pantry was a real convenience for residents that were unable to get to the in-town pantry. Both efforts were greatly appreciated by the community and required lots of extra work because of all that snow.
Volunteers are needed to host monthly potlucks, held on the third Wednesday of each month. Hosting responsibilities include setting up tables, arranging food, and assisting with cleanup. Most volunteers finish by 8 p.m., and training is available. Individuals interested in hosting or looking for more information should contact Louise at pandlcowan@hotmail.com. Please note that potlucks cannot take place without hosts.
With spring comes spring cleaning. The third annual Island Cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, though trash pickup may be done at any time convenient for you. Volunteers from previous years should have already received tentative assignments; please notify Louise if your assignment no longer works (pandlcowan@hotmail.com). And she would love to hear from new volunteers as there are additional areas available for those who wish to participate. Safety vests will be available at the April 15 potluck or at the BICA Hall on the morning of May 2.
For those who prefer not to do roadside work, Bill is coordinating an outdoor cleanup at the hall on the same day starting at 9. Volunteers may contact him by text at 6179682688 or wfbutterfield@roadrunner.com to find out more and to offer their services.
All cleanup volunteers are invited to enjoy pizza at the hall at noon on Saturday, generously provided by Sandy and Rob. Plan on bringing your own beverages. More on this as we get closer to the date.
