Rev. Canon George Maxwell to lead services at All Saints July 5 and 12
The Rev. George Maxwell, vicar of the Cathedral Church of St. Philip in Atlanta, Georgia will preside over the celebration of the service of Holy Communion at 8 and 10 a.m. on July 5 and 12. We will continue to enjoy the organ talents of Mr. Henry Lowe on both Sundays. Coffee and refreshments will be served after the 10 a.m. services so all may enjoy fellowship and the beauty of this sacred space. People of all faiths are invited to attend the services.
Rev. Maxwell oversees all operations of the cathedral including its staff, programs, and ministries. The vicar especially enjoys teaching the old-fashioned Sunday School and leading several small groups. He is actively involved in many Episcopal leadership positions including serving as president of the Standing Committee of the Diocese of Atlanta, treasurer and former chair of the Wright House Foundation, and a founding faculty member of Learning to Lead, a training course in the principals of adaptive leadership to the church. As a prior chair, he also serves on the Advisory Board of the Georgia Justice Project. He is passionate about spiritual wellness for clergy and holds several certificates in spiritual guidance and leadership. George was inducted into the Martin Luther King Jr. International Board of Preachers at Morehouse College in 2011 and earned his masters of divinity degree from Emory University. The Maxwell family has grown to love their summers in Maine and we are blessed to have his guidance as part of the Governing Committee at All Saints.
On Tuesdays, July 7 and 14 from 9 to 10 a.m., Rev. Maxwell will lead an informal discussion of the week’s scriptures on the porch of the chapel. This is a special time to share insights as well as questions with other spiritual seekers and Rev. Maxwell. Attendees of All Saints as well as members of other area churches are encouraged to attend.
All Saints by-the-Sea is on Southport Island on All Saints Road about two miles on the left driving south on Route 238. An Episcopal Church sign marks the side of the road. Parking is available along Route 238 or in the limited number of handicapped parking spaces at the chapel parking lot on All Saints Road. A golf cart will ferry persons from the handicapped lot to the church steps. On Sundays, the chapel dock is reserved for parishioners and guests arriving to services by boat. The very beautiful and simple wood chapel is open for quiet prayer and meditation during the week.
