Kindness saved the day
Dear Editor:
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the residents of Boothbay and Southport for their help on July 5 when the Hendricks Hill swing bridge wasn’t working. My daughter’s wedding was taking place that afternoon at the Newagen Inn, leaving family, friends, band members, and ice stranded on the Boothbay side as their vehicles were unable to cross the bridge.
People were kind enough to shuttle people to the Inn in their vehicles, give a couple of folks a ride to the Inn in their boat, carry ice, and someone even lent a pair of flip flops to a barefooted guest attempting to cross the steel grated bridge barefoot (the sandals are waiting for you at the Inn with a thank you note). The kindness, generosity and support were extraordinary. Thanks to you all, we were able to proceed with the wedding after just a 30 minute delay.
If only more people today were like the wonderful people in Maine - we’d all enjoy “The Way Life Should Be.”
Forever grateful
