'Talking Art in Maine' welcomes Jane Dahmen
Lincoln Theater is excited to welcome acclaimed Maine artist Jane Dahmen as our next guest of the free event, "Talking Art in Maine," Thursday, June 11. The series features live conversations between host Emily Sabino and notable artists and curators who have made a substantial contribution to the arts in the state of Maine. Emily Sabino, who also happens to be Jane Dahmen’s daughter, will provide audiences a uniquely personal look at Jane’s life, work, and decades-long contribution to the arts in Maine.
Dahmen is a contemporary realist whose landscapes explore the trees, rivers, fields, streams, and coastal regions of Midcoast Maine. Her work has appeared in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States and abroad, including shows at Portland Art Gallery and Greenhut Gallery in Portland, Gleason Fine Art in Boothbay Harbor, Courthouse Gallery in Ellsworth, Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset, CMCA in Rockland, and galleries in New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
Over the course of her career, Dahmen has received wide recognition for her work. She was named Maine Audubon’s signature artist in 2005 and has been featured in Maine Home + Design magazine and Old Port magazine. One of her paintings hung in the White House during the late 1980s and 1990s, and several of her works were featured in a 2002 exhibition at the U.S. Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the 1990s and early 2000s, posters of her work were distributed internationally by Graphique de France.
In addition to her painting career, Dahmen created and originally hosted Talking Art in Maine at Lincoln Theater, where she interviewed artists and curators for many years, including Alex Katz, Katherine Bradford, Lois Dodd, and Suzette McAvoy.
Host Emily Sabino, is an abstract representational painter living in Newcastle. She creates work inspired by the natural world, including plants, weather, light, and water. In addition to her own artistic practice and exhibitions throughout Maine, she serves as a board member of the Union of Maine Visual Artists.
The June 11 Talking Art in Maine event begins at 7 p.m. and is free. All events in the 2026 Talking Art in Maine series are generously sponsored by Damariscotta River Grill and Damariscotta Hardware.
