Ocean Point Column: Busy, busy, busy days
Wow, it’s almost impossible to believe that we are at the end of the month. July has just flown, however, we are so happy to finally be experiencing summer-like weather.
It was again a busy week of activities here with many to thank.
Thank you to Sarah Dawson who organized the kid’s Bingo night last Tuesday and for a nature walk on Wednesday.
Thank you to Ann Hussey Hogaboom for chairing a hugely successful Attic Treasure Sale. Ann along with her committee members Liz Colten, Cookie Dana, Donna Logan, Holly Horner, Patti Gardiner and Lynn Wilson spent many hours planning and organizing the event. Thank you to the following volunteers for their time and effort: Lanny Whitehouse, Peter Gardiner, Helene Cass, Cookie Dana, Cara Pond, Sue Kern, Joan Fischer, Marsha Donald, Bibbs Fowler, Barbara Yahn, Bonnie Bennett and Lori Frazier, Cindy Raposa, Barb Klein, Pat Landurand, Bart Hornor, Georgia Chambers, Betsy Paige, Scott Hogaboom, Fred Wilson and Paul and Sue Taylor. Thank you to all who donated and attended.
The Butterworths and the Watchowskis hosted a porch party on Saturday evening that was very well attended. Thank you to David, Alison, Randi and Dale for your hospitality.
We will all learn of the results of Ocean Pointer Abby Clark’s appearance in the "American Ninja Warrior" semi-final competition Monday night. We’re all rooting for you Abby, good luck.
Lisa Slayton will be presenting an interesting and informative talk on her book” Life In Flux” on Tuesday evening at 7.
Once again thank you to the Raymond family who will be hosting the Kid’s Yard Games on Wednesday at 5.
In case you haven’t noticed the stores are beginning to display their Halloween décor, a reminder that summer is passing by too quickly. On a more positive note we all have an opportunity to celebrate Halloween early this year. “Trick or Treating” is planned this Thursday evening beginning at 5. If you are interested in joining in on the festivities stop by the Casino this week and grab a sign to post on your door.
Our second Pancake Breakfast is Saturday morning, Aug. 2 from 8:30 to 10. There’s no better way to start your weekend than with a hearty breakfast prepared by Mary Rush and her very capable crew.
The Cornhole tournament will be held later on Saturday evening and Mark and Cara Pond are hosting the event. The fun begins at 5; bring your skill and your own beverage. Sign up is at the Casino.
The Card Cove Association is once again sponsoring the always popular kid’s Fishing Derby bright and early Sunday morning, Aug. 3 at 7:30. Space is limited so be sure to sign up at the Casino with Ben Kaler on Thursday, July 31 from 5 to 7.
Rev. Sandy Daly, United Church of Christ (ret.), Edgecomb, Maine will conduct Sunday services Aug. 3 at 9:30. All are welcome to attend.
The S’mores night scheduled for this past Sunday has been postponed to this Sunday evening at Grimes beginning at 7. Contact Amy and Greg Arnpriester for details.
Ginna Yerrall will once again serve up some delicious tacos on Tuesday, Aug. 5 at 6:30. Tickets for the event are available on our website.
Please plan on attending the second presentation of the history of Ocean Point on Wednesday night, Aug. 6 at 7 sponsored by the Historic Committee.
Congratulations to John McGonagle who recently graduated from Wayland High School and will be attending Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio where he will major in music and engineering. John is the son of Tom and Alexa McGonagle and grandson of Tom and Tish McGonagle.
Best wishes to Sarah Dawson on her upcoming nuptials. She and her fiancé Corey Walker will exchange vows at the Wilson Chapel.
It’s wonderful to see so many Ocean Pointers vacationing here. Mark Rush is here with his son William, wife Meaghan and daughter Cece. Mark’s son Alex and friend Summer are here as well.
Nancy and Andy Smith have arrived for some vacation, Andy as you know was the AD for many years and it’s always nice to see them return.
With so many here enjoying the Point I would like to take the opportunity to ask that we all adhere to the speed limit around Ocean Point, especially around the Casino area. Thank you.
Have a great week!
