Cross-country teams race at Maranacook
The Boothbay/Wiscasset boys and girls cross-country teams competed in 5,000-meter races at Maranacook High School on Thursday, Sept. 3.
For the boys, senior AJ Crocker was once again the top finisher, coming in fourth overall at 17:47.61 and shaving 30 seconds off his time on the same course last year. Top runner in the 64-runner field was Winthrop freshman Sawyer Wess with a time of 16:50.90.
For the girls, sophomore Audrey Robinson finished fifth overall with a time of 24:18.28, shaving 2 minutes and 39 seconds over last year’s time. The top female runner was Maranacook freshman Reagan Mattson with a time of 19:35.31. Thirty-three girls finished the race.
“We performed well as a team and all indications are that we should be quite competitive as the season progresses,” said BRHS/WMHS coach Nick Scott in an email.
Also finishing in the top-20 in the boys race were: junior Louie Caidoc, 19:37.06, eighth place; junior Alex Ross, 20:32.08, 12th place; and sophomore John Cooper, 21:24.90. Caidoc improved his time by 50 seconds from last year’s race and Cooper improved his time from last year by 1 minute and 12 seconds. Also competing were sophomore Carson MacKusick, junior Caleb Bates, junior Kolton McKenney, freshman James Barter, sophomore Brady Baldwin, sophomore Miles Hyson, and junior Ben Gapski.
Sophomore Maggie McCarty finished 10th overall in the girls race in 25:05.56, improving her time from last year by 3 minutes and 56 seconds.
Freshman Emma Scott finished 15th in 26:45.15 and Aryana Gray posted a time of 40:22.50.
Next up for the BRHS/WMHS teams is a meet in Gorham on Saturday, Sept. 12 featuring high school runners throughout New England. Time schedule: Freshman/Sophomore boys at 10 a.m.; Freshman/Sophomore girls at 10:45 a.m.; Junior/Senior boys at 11:30 a.m.; and Junior/Senior girls at 12:15 p.m.
