Bremen artist's work at Damariscotta hospital until Aug. 28
The Maine Health Lincoln Hospital is pleased to exhibit the artwork of Mary Sue Weeks through Aug. 28. Mary Sue is a native of Bremen and has been painting since a child when she took lessons from the late Dorothy Apgar in Damariscotta ages 8 through 12.
From 2000 through 2004 Mary Sue had her own business called Decorative Illusions doing faux finishing and tromp l’oeil painting and continues today. Her work can be seen at the Bremen Union Church in Bremen, Morse’s Sauerkraut in Waldoboro, the Masonic Lodge in Rockport, Pineland Farms in New Gloucester, and many fine homes in Maine and Massachusetts.
She has been the scenic artist for the Lincoln County Community Theater for over 20 years, painting the backdrops and panels for their live productions. She has also volunteered scenic painting for the Waldo Theater.
Mary Sue’s paintings are oil and acrylics and generally of the beautiful Maine landscapes and flowers from her garden. “I believe the artist’s hand should show in a painting, through visible brushstrokes, color choices or composition,” she says. “It gives a lot of energy to the painting.”
The Lincoln Hall Gallery is open 24 hours daily and you may enter through the main hospital doors.
