Bayville Buzz
Windjammer Days have come and gone, but the memories remain of another great show by the Boothbay Harbor community. Thank you to all who helped put the various events together and to all the boats and crew who participated. Bayville was well represented with Al and Becky Roberts jamming with their Community Band bandmates and Liz Bagonzi helping with the Navy profiles in the Register. Eastside Park had music and food and was a great place from which to view the fireworks show. It was there that the plan for the inaugural summer of ’26 fire pit was hatched.
The following night, a contingent of family and friends made a trial run to ensure The Pit was well stocked and ready for another season of fun. Tallwood Mary Beth was there with her daughters Rose and Eloise and their husband/partners. My partner in crime, Megan, was there for her debut appearance. She passed another test (keeping her score at 100%) and lasted until the end with me, Laura and Mark. I have a feeling my grade is a bit lower on her score sheet.
It’s easy to talk a good game at The Pit, but everyone who said they were going to Motor Booty Affair, were no shows. The band is quite entertaining and it’s fun to see a crowd of mostly 20 something’s singing all the words to hits from the 70s - such as “September” and “Play that Funky Music.”
The obnoxious neighbors are at it again. They had been very well behaved, but as soon as a new generation arrived, the noise and rowdiness returned. The lessons in communication and survival are found throughout the animal kingdom, but crows seem to hold their classes earlier in the day and at leaf blower volume. This past week I did see a bald eagle in a tree chirping to an eaglet on the ground at waters edge. Though high pitched, their interactions were much more subdued.
To commemorate our nations 250th, Bayville’s traffic light has been changed to red, white and blue for the summer. Please remember, blue means go, while white is pedestrian crossing.
The Village hasn’t reached full capacity yet, but it’s getting close and should be bursting at the seams come July 4. And why not? What better place to celebrate the US of A?
The BIA annual meeting kicks things off at 9 a.m. and then at noon (don’t be late or you will regret it), the real fun begins with music, marching and hot dogs.
Courtesy of Ginger Robitaille and daughter Laura Thompson the Friendship and Community House gardens have extra pops of color this year and going forward as they have been busy planting perennials. In addition to Laura, husband Temujin and their kids Trajan and Naya are all visiting from Hawaii.
Speaking of flowers, thanks to Alina Blakesley for keeping our Post Office looking beautiful.
That “thunking” you were hearing was cornhole competition over at the Purcell/Kyanko cottage.
Will and Lucy Jordan are here until the 13th and have been enjoying some water adventures with dog Roo, who is making his first visit -and swim - here. Will has written another great story and you will see it in the Buzz or Register one of these days. Brother John, Stephanie and their kids will be here soon after, so the One Wheel parks will be open for business.
Speaking of wheels, I’m getting a new left hip on July 9. Wayne Lafferty is getting his on July 20.
The Hultins have daughter Elsa and husband Jesse, along with granddaughter Scarlett in town. Her parents got so tired of hearing Scarlett from Charlotte, they have now moved to Minneapolis.
At the Nielsens, Dan is in town in between his move from Austin to Asheville. Dan is quite the artist and will be doing a project while he is here.
Over at Mary Hatch’s, Stella is visiting and is enjoying her walks and doggie treats.
Four kids from the Frascella/LaPointe/ Strojny cottage bailed out all the dinghys. The Buzz will have to get their names so they get proper recognition, but until then, thank you for your excellent work!
Have a wonderful 4th everyone!
