There will be something a little different about the 2027 Windjammers Days celebration. In each year since COVID-19, the Windjammers Days' theme has honored a group such as the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, or local boat builders. This year, the theme honors famous sea shanties or songs about the sea.

“I had the idea — instead of honoring a group — what about honoring music of the sea. Famous sea shanties like ‘The Wellerman,' a 19th-century New Zealand folk song or 'Come Sail Away' by Styx. Everybody on the committee loved the idea,” said committee member Mark Gimbel.

So the Windjammer Days Committee is putting the word out for musical acts, whether they be a solo, duo, instrumental group, or a band, to contact them about performing during the June 27 through July 3, 2027 celebration.

First on Gimbel's wish list for acts is Nathan Evans of Airdrie, Scotland, who became a TikTok sensation in July 2020 singing “The Wellerman," which amassed over 7.5 million views.

The committee is looking for about 20 acts to perform throughout the weeklong celebration. Anyone interested should contact Gimbel at 207-504-0207 or boothbayharborwindjammerdays.org
