Why I am running for selectman
Dear Editor:
My name is Evan Hepburn, and I am running for Boothbay Harbor Selectman because I care deeply about this town and the people who live and work here.
Boothbay Harbor is a special place. It is a working waterfront, a small community, and a town with a lot of history, pride, and hardworking people. I believe we need leadership that understands both the traditions that make this town what it is and the practical decisions needed to keep it strong for the future.
I am running because I want to be a voice for the people who live here year-round, work hard, raise families here, run businesses here, and care about the future of our harbor and our community. I understand that life because it is my own. I understand the importance of balancing growth with protecting what makes Boothbay Harbor unique. We need thoughtful decision making, common sense, and people in town government who are willing to listen.
If elected, I will focus on responsible town management, supporting local businesses, protecting the working waterfront, improving communication with residents, and making sure Boothbay Harbor remains a place where people can live, work, and thrive.
I am not running to make politics out of local government. I am running because I believe town leadership should be about service, accountability, and doing what is best for the community. I want to be approachable, honest, and someone people can talk to directly about the issues that matter to them.
I also understand that the role of a Selectman is to manage municipal affairs, including fiscal oversight, town property, and policy. A Selectman should operate within the defined responsibilities of the office and avoid overstepping into matters outside that role. I will serve the people of Boothbay Harbor within clearly defined responsibilities of the office and focus on doing that job well, without serving any personal agendas.
Boothbay Harbor deserves leaders who care about the town not just during election season, but every day. I would be honored to earn your support and the opportunity to serve this community as your Selectman.
Evan Hepburn
