Turkey Trot 5k mascot has a name ... Gobbezilla!
Thanks to students at Boothbay Region Elementary and High schools, the Turkey Trot 5k mascot has a name. Students at both schools held elections to determine the winner.
The list of choices included Drumstick, Pumpkin, Feathers McGee and Gobbezilla. These were determined by the initial voting by students in grades 5-12. On Friday Nov. 22, School Resource Officer Larry Brown along with BRES Student Leadership students Byron Hills and John Cooper met with Pre-K to fourth grade students with the turkey.
The students were told about the Turkey Trot scheduled for 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day which will be held at the new cross-country trail at the school. They were told how all donations will be used for the food closets at each school.
Officer Brown explained how the turkey needed a name and they could vote on which one they liked. Each student was given a sticker to place on one of the four sheets of paper with the name of the selections.
Byron and John assisted the students in placing their stickers. All students were thanked for participating in this election.
At the conclusion, Byron and John tabulated the results, which showed Gobbezilla won.
