Thomas Blevins
Thomas Blevins of Edgecomb and Southport, died peacefully on July 11, 2025.
He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on July 6, 1941, the second son of W Ernest Blevins and Hazel Dickson Blevins, and grew up in St Louis.
Tom’s studies reflected his expansive curiosity, first at Wesleyan, then a year abroad in Paris where he discovered the art of mime, then moving back to the Midwest to pursue creative writing and Old English literature.
After graduating from St Louis University in 1966, he taught high school English. Tom met Janet Siebel in a university Aristotle class, and they married in 1964. In 1968, the couple moved to France and England to pursue writing and graduate studies for three years, returning to the States in 1972 via Maine, with infant son Scott in tow.
Tom’s fascination with sailing led him to work at Paul Luke’s and then Hodgdon’s boat yards, learning woodworking skills from local master craftsmen. He later started his own shop in Edgecomb, where he built Shark catamarans and maintained wooden boats for several local boat owners.
Tom was predeceased by his parents and his brother Winfred.
He is survived by his wife Janet, his son Scott, and extended family members.
The family is grateful to the caring staff at Avita of Brunswick and for the services of Beacon Hospice.
