Do you know someone guilty of a bad parking job? Feeding seagulls on the pier? Or—gasp—being a grinch during Boothbay Lights? Nominations are now open for Boothbay Harbor’s Jail & Bail Trolley Fundraiser, taking place Wednesday, July 16 in support of the beloved historic trolley. (During its regular daily route!)
This lighthearted fundraising event invites locals and visitors alike to “arrest” their friends, coworkers, family members—or even themselves—for humorous (and entirely fictional) crimes. Once nominated, the “accused” will be served a warrant and paraded through town aboard the historic trolley until they’ve raised their bail.
Charge amounts range from $25 to $100 based on the level of the “crime.”
Sample offenses include:
-
$25 – Not returning the cart at Hannaford, feeding the seagulls, jaywalking
-
$50 – Driving the wrong way on Townsend Ave, bad parking job, or speeding in the no-wake zone
-
$75 – Stealing the blue lobster from the Maine State Aquarium, being a Grinch during Boothbay Lights
-
$100 – Stealing a Windjammer or inventing your own PG-rated charge!
How it Works:
-
Fill out an arrest form with the name of your nominee and the charge.
-
Submit your donation to the chamber (BHRCC - 192 Townsend Ave) to make the arrest official.
-
The “jailbirds” will be summoned on July 16 and transported through town to post bail—with help from friends, their phones, or passersby.
All proceeds support the continued operation and preservation of our historic trolley.
