Sprucewold Column: Boat launch, annual meetings and more
Mary Otto sent the accompanying photos of recent events on Birch Road. It takes a neighborhood! At the start of the summer, Birch Road residents Ralph and Gail Kimball sold their historic Cape Dory Typhoon Gale Force to newer Sprucewold residents also living on Birch Road, Ira Casel and Galit Kierkut. Involved in the transfer -- and the launching and rigging of Gale Force for the season, were several other neighbors including Chris Addis, Jeff Goodell, and Susan Goodell. The photos show Ralph Kimball in the Typhoon helping to guide the mast, held by Chris and Ira, as it slid into place on the boat.
The Boothbay Region Garden Club’s Home and Garden Tour for Friday, July 18 is sold out! This is a great fundraiser and supports many scholarships, activities, and the beautification of many areas in our community. This year the walking tour is all on Ocean Point.
Kristi Angel Patterson, daughter of Sara and Jack Angel on Bayberry Road, shared with us that Jack had broken his hip and had pneumonia. His pneumonia has cleared up and he is currently in rehab. Sara is doing well. Kristi will be in Sprucewold later this summer. We miss our lovely neighbors at lunches, cocktail hours, and dinners; Jack and his daily golf and weekly cribbage games and Sara with her knitting and embroidery, always a project going, including making braided rugs together. We miss seeing them walking their dog, Lil Bit, around the Bayberry, Nahanada, and Crest loop. As long time past president, secretary, and treasurer, they were an endless source of history and information for the Linekin Heights Association.
We were all having such a good time at the opening party that we forgot to bring out the directories until later in the evening (apologies for that!). If you didn’t get one, please reach out to our secretary, Elaine Rittershaus, to pick one up or arrange for delivery to your cabin.
If you haven't already, please mark your calendars for the following events. The Annual Linekin Heights meeting will be on the Linekin Green at 9 a.m. on Aug. 2. The Sprucewold Beach Club meeting on Saturday, Aug. 9, TBA.
The Annual Sprucewold Meeting will be held on Linekin Green at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 2, followed by our Annual Potluck Dinner that same evening at 5. If you are able, please bring your own dishes and silverware to reduce waste. Paper and plastic will be available. Drinks will be provided.
• If your last name begins with A–N, please bring a savory dish
• If your last name begins with O–Z, please bring a dessert
Friday, July 18 at 4 p.m. will be the first bocce game day on the former tennis court at Linekin Green. The former tennis court is located behind 74 Crest on the opposite side of the Green from the shuffleboard court. With enough participation we can make this a weekly event. Please come to play!
