Ronald Martel
Ronald “Ron” Martel, 79, of Trevett, passed away peacefully at his home on Jan. 29, 2026, with his loving family by his side.
Ron was born in Portland, Maine, on Jan. 30, 1946, to Jack and Ina (Talmanson) Martel. He graduated from Edward Little High School in 1964 as a member of the National Honor Society. He went on to attend the Boston University School of Business, where he earned a degree in finance in 1968, with minors in securities analysis and economics.
Following his education, Ron was self-employed and built a successful career rooted in independence and innovation. In 1980, he established a bookkeeping practice that embraced the emerging use of computers, well ahead of its time. He later relocated his practice from Sugarloaf to Boothbay Harbor in 1986, where he continued his work for many years.
Ron had a lifelong love of athletics and mentorship. He generously gave his time as a football coach at Boothbay Region High School and Mount Ararat High School, and as a rowing coach at Hyde School. During his college years, he was a member of the Boston University Crew and rowed with the Union Boat Club of Boston in the summer of 1967—an experience that reflected his dedication to teamwork and discipline. He also was a fan and enjoyed watching the New England Patriots, Celtics, Red Sox and Bruins.
Ron is survived by the love of his life, Laurie Brewer of Barters Island; his sons, Brett Martel of New Orleans, Louisiana, Joshua Martel of Portland, Maine, and Jonathan Martel of Cheyenne, Wyoming; his stepson, David Brewer of Barters Island; and his cherished grandchildren, Ben, Jake, Zoe and Olivia Martel.
A graveside burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Boothbay.
Arrangements are under the care of Hall Funeral Home of Boothbay. To share a condolence or memory with the Martel family, visit www.hallfuneralhomes.com
