Alleged child killer Tyler Witham-Jordan back on trial Feb. 17, in Bath this time
The new trial for an Edgecomb man charged in the 2022 Christmas Day death of a toddler is set to start Feb. 17 in Sagadahoc County Superior Court in Bath. Tyler Witham-Jordan was charged with the murder of 3-year-old Makinzlee Handrahan in Edgecomb. Jury selection begins Feb. 10, according to court records.
The first trial came to a halt Dec. 11, 2024 in Lincoln County Superior Court after an emotional outburst by the victim's mother. Testifying against her former live-in boyfriend, Faith Lewis experienced an emotional reaction when presented with an autopsy photo of her daughter. Lewis tearfully pleaded with prosecutors to take down the photo, according to court records. Calling Lewis’ reaction one of the most extreme he has seen in his judicial career, Justice Daniel Billings declared a mistrial with prejudice, expressing the opinion he did not feel the jurors would be able to set aside the emotional impact of seeing and hearing Lewis’ breakdown.
The trial was moved to Sagadahoc County in Bath to escape potential jury pool contamination, according to court records. Lincoln County court officials report Feb. 18-27 was scheduled for additional trial dates.
