Ocean Gate Resort sold to investment group
An investment group led by Scott Larson, owner of Newagen Seaside Inn, has acquired Ocean Gate Resort on Southport Island
The group has announced the purchase of the Ocean Gate Resort, a landmark waterfront property located on Southport Island, Maine. The same group recently purchased and flipped the Cod Cove Inn in Edgecomb and the Flagship Inn in Boothbay Harbor.
The acquisition marks another major hospitality investment in the Boothbay region and reflects a continued commitment to preserving and enhancing classic Maine coastal inns while elevating guest experience through thoughtful modernization. Plans are underway for extensive renovations at Ocean Gate Resort, with the inn scheduled to reopen to guests in late May 2026 following the completion of the initial phase of improvements. While the May 2026 opening will introduce significant upgrades to accommodations and amenities, ownership emphasized that the full transformation of the property will be a multi-phase, multi-year renovation project designed to minimize disruption while allowing guests to enjoy the evolving property.
“Ocean Gate Resort is an iconic Southport property with extraordinary views and deep local roots,” says Larson. “Our goal is to honor its character while investing in the infrastructure, comfort, and amenities today’s travelers expect.”
Future renovation phases will focus on guest rooms, common areas, waterfront access, and long-term site enhancements. Additional details regarding renovations, amenities, and booking availability will be announced as the May 2026 reopening approaches.
