Boothbay Planning Board approves 5 applications
A seawall on Shore Road is going to get repaired. Martha Simpson and Robert Jacobs received Boothbay Planning Board approval May 20 for a path of travel to access seawall repair. Previously, planning board approval was received to stabilize the shoreline and repair a seawall, but the approval didn't include an approved path.
The original decision was appealed and sent back to the planning board for further review. After the appeals board ruling, Simpson and Jacobs received selectboard approval to move their equipment along the town's adjacent property. Kipp Farrin will repair the wall. He told the planning board May 20, his plan included moving equipment on mats to the seawall.
The planning board placed one condition on the approval. Farrin must obtain a shoreland building permit from the code enforcement officer. The property is in a Coastal Residential District and Shoreland Overlay Zone.
Simpson's and Jacobs' application was one of five approved by the planning board during their monthly meeting. The January 2024 storms not only damaged the Simpson/Jacobs seawall, it damaged Brian McGarth's. He told the planning board the storm washed out the wall's back stones which were organized as a step. Now, the step was left in "disarray," he said.
The planning board conditionally approved his request. The board placed receiving permission from the selectboard to use their abutting plot to transport repair material and equipment as a condition.
The property is in a Coastal Residential District and Shoreland Overlay zone.
A new coffee shop is coming to Boothbay. Elizabeth and Anthony Finocchiaro, Gretchen and Sarah Lauriat, and Rachel Graham Life Estate received approval for a change of use for the former Merrill Chiropractic Office to become a coffee shop. The planning board voted, 5-0, to approve the change.
The property is in a Boothbay Village Center District, and Watershed Protection Overlay zone.

The pier is a 6 feet by 16 feet float timber pier supported by two pilings on a concrete abutment. The board approved the application, 5-0, with one condition. The applicant must receive obtain a submerged lands lease and submit it to the code enforcement officer. The property is in a Residential District, Coastal Residential District and Shoreland Overlay Zone.
The board voted, 5-0, to conditionally approve replacing decking and handrails on a 4-foot-by-97-foot recreational pier. The property is owned by Brett and Frances Siegfried of Wiscasset. The lone condition is for providing a sediment and erosion control certification to the code enforcement officer before any work can be performed.
The property is on Wharf Road. It is in Residential and Coastal Residentail districts and the Shoreland Overlay Zone.
The planning board meets next at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 17 in the conference room.
