Robert Rand MacKusick, 89, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025. He was the husband of Camille (Hastings) MacKusick with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.

Born in Akron, Ohio on March 14,1936, he was the son of the late William and Marcia (Smith) MacKusick. Robert was raised in Akron with his sister Jane and brother, William. He received his bachelor's degree from Michigan State University, majoring in business administration. After university he went on to enlist in the U.S. Army, where he served in Harrogate (Yorkshire), England, stationed at Menwith Hill, an intelligence and communications facility for the UK and the US.

Robert was a life long Christian Scientist, and served the Church as a practitioner, teacher and lecturer.

Robert and Camille raised their three children in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. In the mid-1980s, the family moved to the Boston area where he assumed various management positions within the Church Headquarters.

Robert and his extended family were longtime summer residents of Southport, Maine and in 1990, he and Camille made their final home on Southport in the house his mother had resided in. He had a deep love for the water and it was rare that the family was without a boat. Moxie was the family sailboat (a 1942 Lightning) that they sailed on Lake Erie, Lake Michigan, and around the midcoast of Maine. Later, he simplified to a little Boston Whaler which was always ready for a ride. Uncle Rob could always be counted on for a spin around the islands.

In addition to his wife, Camille, he is survived by their three children, Paul Winslow MacKusick of Lewiston, Maine, Robert Hastings MacKusick of Portland, Maine, Elisabeth Jane MacKusick Cummings and her husband Thomas of Derry, New Hampshire, Rob’s brother William and wife Renata MacKusick of Germany, and his granddaughter Darcy Jane Cummings of Portland, Maine. The MacKusick clan is large with family all over the country. Robert was fortunate to have many nieces, nephews andcousins all blessed by his life.
