Ocean Point Column: Chapel, a poem and more
I find it difficult to believe that we are now at the end of August. I’m certain many of you as well as myself are asking where did the time go? Our activities are over, residents are departing for their winter homes, and many boats have been pulled from their mooring.
Chapel services are also over for the season, however, the chapel remains busy.
Family and friends gathered last Saturday morning to remember our dear friend and neighbor, Dianne Eakin who sadly passed away in June. It was indeed a beautiful service for a beautiful lady.
On a happier note, Nick Ripley and Michelle Barter exchanged vows at the chapel later that day. Congratulations to them both as we wish them many happy years together.
Congratulations to all of the area establishments for being honored and recognized by Down East Magazine in their Best of Maine contest. We all frequent many of the businesses and are happy that their hard work and dedication is being acknowledged.
Connie Carroll sent me this delightful poem that she composed and asked if I would share with all of you. I can confirm that her analysis is quite accurate, as we all appear to be “digitally distracted” these days. Thanks for sharing Connie.
On Her Phone
She took a walk on Shore Road
Was just her dog and she.
Was her first trip to Ocean Point…
So many things to hear and see.
Two sailboats floated near the shore.
A child played with a drone.
But she missed both of these because
She was texting on her phone.
A further distance down the shore
A seal and her baby played there.
But she was texting on her phone,
So she was unaware.
The waters crashed upon the rocks, it was high tide they said.
But useless news was on her phone,
So she checked on it instead.
A boat went by with passengers,
Waving out to her from sea.
But she didn’t see them waving,
She was on her phone you see.
She walked home from her nature trip,
Not remembering what she saw,
“Cause she was busy on her phone
Not seeing Ocean Point’s beauty at all.
Enjoy the last of the season and have a great week!
