Murals for Carter’s Wharf, Art Raffle fundraiser
Maine artist Susan Bartlett Rice has been commissioned to create two murals for the Carter’s Wharf buying station on Atlantic Avenue in Boothbay Harbor. The first one is a generational piece which portrays how lobstering is an important family tradition. The second one of a young fisherman with a dory full of pogies represents hope for a thriving lobster industry into the future. These vibrant and colorful paintings will be digitally reproduced as murals while the original works will be raffled off as a fundraiser for the Carter’s Wharf rebuilding project.
The original “Generations” piece measures 30” X 54” and the “Futures” piece measures 16” X 54”. Any donors who make a minimum donation of $44 will be entered into the raffle. Donors who donate $500 or more will receive an 8.5” X 15” print of the “Generations” piece. Donations must be received by Tuesday, Sept. 30 to be eligible for the raffle and free print. Susan Bartlett Rice’s work can be seen locally at the Kerr & Jones Gallery in East Boothbay or at her studio in South Bristol. You can see her impressive portfolio online on her website and you can follow her on Instagram and Facebook.
Carter’s Wharf is one of the few remaining commercial working wharves in the Boothbay Harbor region. In 2019 the wharf was donated to the Boothbay Region Maritime Foundation, a 501 (C) 3 nonprofit organization. In the fall of 2024, reconstruction of the pier was started. Construction of the new buying station building is scheduled to start in September of 2025. The final phase of the project is the marina which will provide dockage for commercial fishermen.
The members of the Boothbay Region Maritime Foundation are grateful for the opportunity to help preserve local fishing traditions, to share them with our local community and with visitors. Please consider a donation to help them complete this vital project. All donors at the $44 level or above will be added to their donor recognition board. Don’t miss this opportunity to show your support of our local fishing community.
Donations can be made online at their website, https://www.boothbayregionmaritimefoundation.org/carters-wharf or they can be mailed to PO Box 285, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.
