Firefighter's lobster bake a cracking success
The Boothbay Harbor Fire Department (BHFD) lobster bake fundraiser Aug. 9 was a big success according to Lieutenant Jesse Peters. Peters said the event raised around $14,000.
This is the second annual fundraiser for the department after a cookout last year. Around 200 people came this year, fewer than 2024, but more people gave. Peters said he was shocked when he learned how much.
“Thank you to everybody for showing up and to everybody who donated to us,” he said. “It was more than I expected, and I’m excited for next year already.”
Peters said everything but the lobsters were donated, including time and effort from fire department auxiliary members and other volunteers. The event included live music from Chip Schwehm as well as Timmy Sprague and The Murky Water Band. In addition, over 25 local businesses donated to a benefit raffle with prizes from heating oil to a fireman’s quilt made by his grandmother.
There were also activities, including a dunk tank, firetruck bounce house, and face painting. However, touch-a-truck tours were cut short just before 3 p.m. as a crew of firefighters quickly unloaded kids off the truck to respond to an accident on Route 27.
