Maureen Heffernan for Edgecomb School Committee
Dear Editor:
• Edgecomb votes for Maureen Heffernan for Edgecomb School Committee
• Strong schools. Responsible budgets.
• Protecting our community school
Edgecomb’s school is at a critical moment. Rising costs and limited resources demand steady, disciplined leadership. We need someone who can keep the school within its budget while improving the education of our children. Maureen Heffernan is that candidate.
Maureen brings more than 30 years in educational programming and over two decades as a nonprofit executive, including serving as executive director at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. From 2004–2011, she led the Gardens from pre-opening through its 2007 public launch—driving major growth, construction, fundraising, and program expansion into a leading public destination. She has also developed programs for children and families, contributed to award-winning children’s gardens, and is a published children’s book author.
Maureen has been an Edgecomb resident for nearly 20 years.
Just as important, she has managed budgets, secured public grants from the state, and raised private funds—real-world experience that can help stabilize finances and expand opportunities for students without placing additional burden on taxpayers.
This is about balance: strong academics and responsible financial stewardship. Maureen understands that every dollar must be spent wisely and transparently to support student success. She knows how to identify new funding sources, control costs, and strengthen programs at the same time.
A collaborative leader, Maureen will work closely with fellow School Committee members, faculty, staff, parents, and the broader AOS 98 community to make thoughtful, practical decisions that serve both students and taxpayers.
In a small town like Edgecomb, we need leadership that is experienced, steady, and committed to both excellence and accountability.
Maureen Heffernan delivers. Please join me in voting for Maureen Heffernan on Saturday, May 16.
