It’s summer!
Did you ever think summer would arrive – especially after a long winter and spring?
Well, it’s here and the Boothbay and Wiscasset regions have come alive with events and visitors filling the roadways and sidewalks.
Even before this week’s 64th annual Windjammer Days got underway, and before the calendar’s first day of summer, Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce sponsored the annual Claw Down and Fishin’ for Fashion events which drew great crowds and participation. They were a great kickoff to summer.
The Windjammer Days schedule is once again full and there’s more to come after this column gets published. Check out our annual guide (if there are still some around) and our websites to find out what the schedule holds for your pleasure.
Wiscasset has its longstanding (72 years!) Strawberry Festival on Saturday, June 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Philip’s Church on Hodge Street. Indulge yourself with a strawberry shortcake – a summer delight – and perhaps purchase a craft or two.
As was mentioned in the third paragraph, summer brings people and vehicles. Patience and courtesy need to be on people’s minds, as well as being observant for pedestrians, bicyclists and dog walkers crossing the road or walking beside it. We hope everyone remains safe.
Summer is short around here – but we love the fall months as well – so enjoy the events, sunshine, boat rides, down time, parties and more.
