Hearty Roots sponsors youth event in Alna July 9
Hearty Roots, a nature-based resilience program that supports youth in building confidence, connection, and emotional wellbeing through outdoor experiences, is proud to sponsor Thrive Together: How Creativity & Connection Build Youth Resilience, a free, daylong event blending art, teen-led conversations, and family-friendly activities. Presented by Studio B as part of the Puddle Dock Village Festival, the event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Alna Meetinghouse in Alna with lunch included.
The event includes art, interactive dance, performances, and the participation of nearly 20 youth- and family-serving organizations from across Maine. In the morning, adult leaders will hold an audience conversation on how to build environments where young people feel safe and supported. In the afternoon, teens will take the lead—sharing stories, insights, and ideas about what youth really need from the adults around them. Hands-on activities like dessert decorating, balloon games, and art-making will take place throughout the day.
Sponsoring this event aligns closely with Hearty Roots’ mission to foster social-emotional wellness and connection through creative, nature-based experiences. “This event celebrates everything we believe in,” says Haley Bezon, Director of Hearty Roots. “Young people being seen, heard, and supported by their communities—it’s exactly the kind of gathering that builds our village.”
Peter Bruun, founder of Studio B and lead organizer of the Puddle Dock Village Festival, emphasized how meaningful the partnership is. “We’re grateful to Hearty Roots for sponsoring this event. Their mission and values are deeply in sync with what this day is all about: creating space where young people can thrive.”
The event complements the festival’s featured art exhibition by Damariscotta sculptor Keith Plummer, whose work explores themes of childhood trauma, safety and protection. Thrive Together responds to that exhibition with a hopeful and action-oriented answer: collective community care in real time.
