Heads, we lose; tails, he wins
Dear Editor:
One of the latest outrages proposed by Donald “King Midas” Trump and his courtiers is the striking of a new $1 coin, commemorating our 250th anniversary as a free and democratic nation.
What better way to symbolize our traditions of liberty and national unity than by stamping Trump’s profile on both sides of the coin? The obverse image would be Trump’s profile (after platysmasplasty), partially obscuring the word LIBERTY; the reverse would depict him with raised fist and the the words FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT above and his most egregious failure below: E PLURIBUS UNUM.
Like everything else he has done in office, this draft coin contravenes long-standing norms, guidelines, and legislation prohibiting the minting of U.S. coins with the image of a currently serving government official.
For our Narcissist-in-Chief, these restrictions are gossamer, easily swept aside. This Janus headed token perfectly reflects the promise he gave us at the end of his debate with Hillary Clinton: “I will totally accept the results of this great and historic presidential election, if I win.”
With those Trump dollars in our pockets, we can finally relax. No more need to debate the issues or to elect leaders: we just flip his coin.
