The opening tip. STEVE EDWARDS/Boothbay RegisterClass C South girls basketball champions the Boothbay Region Seahawks beat the North C champions Penobscot Valley Howlers, 33-25, for the Class C state championship and gold ball at Cross Insurance Center in Bangor Saturday night, March 2.
The win capped a 22-0 season for the Seahawks, winning the second gold ball for the program, the first in 35 years (1984). GloryBlethen led the team with 10 points while sister Faith had nine points. Lexi Ireland was the game’s leading scorer with 18 for Penobscot Valley, which finished the season at 17-5. Faith Blethen also had a game-high 17 rebounds.
